hi, im not sure exactly which category i should have posted this, so i just went with general. i have an opportunity to customize a hubertus guardian with ivory scales. and there are several others id like to do that to, leverlettos and case pocket knives for example. my question is, on production knives, how does customizing by a third party affect their investment value in the long term? im sure that it kills their warrenty but thats ok because im not going to be doing anything with them but admiring them. most of my life ive collected for my own pleasure and im kind of new at collecting as an investment. as much as i wish otherwise, regular custom made knives are just simply out of my reach in regards to price, so i felt like this might be the next best thing. a standard pocket knife or switch turned into an heirloom for a third of the price of most customs. at least thats the idea. id really appreciate any advise i could get on third party customizing vs investment value, plus your thoughts on knife investing in general. thanks.

It depends on the knife. Limited editions will probably lose value to collectors if altered. For regular production knives you will probably not get your $ back unless a buyer loves the changes you made and agrees to pay your price. I would say do the mods you want, for your enjoyment and as cheaply as possible, but not as an investment.
