Seeking comparisons, 950 vs 940

I actually happened to find an Amazon photo of the two knives I am thinking about, the green aluminum 940 and the grey/black G10 950! The aluminum scaled 950 is also in the running, since it will probably carry better than the G10 950 and aluminum is a pretty interesting material. Whichever one I get would be an eventual replacement for a CRKT M16-01KZ that I always have either clipped to me or in a pocket, and I would like to get a black plain edged blade on whatever one I end up with.

Thanks for sharing any experience with Benchmade's folders, whichever one I decide on will be my first Benchmade! Originally I was thinking about an OTF auto, but, I'd rather get one of these, gain a lot of practical utility and save some money!

Both fine knives but the 940 is a sliver in your hand compared to the 950. If you want grip/leverage, bear that in mind.

I'd recommend a 940 for edc, I carry one every day and love it. The 950 is definitely bulkier and looks to be more of a hard use knife than edc, but that depends on what you do every day

Agreed, both are great knives but I personally prefer the 940 (943 with grey ti handles) for EDC. The 950 is a great heavy user with the full liners but takes a bit to much pocket space. You can't go wrong with either choice. I have seen a great number of heavy use old 940's come back for Lifesharp and they still function great.

Another vote got the 940. My 943 has been my EDC for nine months now and I don't have plans to ever replace it!

Its a beautiful knife and very well balanced...

Not familiar with the CRKT knife you have, but I will have to support my favorite knife ever, the 940. It is well worth the money. However, an honorary mention will be the 950 Forum Rift knife with carbon fiber handles. It will probably be around $250 (shows up on forums occasionally). If you can find one, snag it. The knife is awesome. You can get a 940 anytime, but the Forum Rift knife is only appreciating in value.

If you're looking for a knife with a similar size and profile to the CRKT M16, my vote would be for the 940/943. I own a 943, and I actually currently have one of my friend's M16-01kz for sharpening. The 940/943 is a great knife. I actually ended up picking up a Contego as well...significantly larger and beefier, but similar in shape to the 940. I really like the Osborne-designed Benchmades.

You ripped the words out of my mouth! Minus the lifesharp part. Id go 940 if ease of carrying is what you want. So slim, so sexy!

Ease isn't a huge deal, I still really like the CRKT (it's a spear point ~3" black zytel scaled, pretty slim and light knife, with the Auto-LAWKS) and I can always downsize to that instead, so the larger 950 is probably going to fulfill a role that's much more vacant for me.

Thanks for the insight so far guys!

Benchmade, during a Lifesharp servicing, if you wanted to swap to a different blade could you pick any of the blade configurations offered on that model of knife?

Don't think the 950 came with aluminum handles. I am aware of a gray/charcoal g10, black g10, and Carbon Fiber.
