Hey all my job has kept me pretty much in the "tactical/defensive" knife niche, but i recently found my dad's old timer and its kicked me into wanting to start collecting slipjoints. The problem is that I don't really know all that much about what are the most sought after slipjoints. Any information/help would be greatly interested. Also the slipjoints that most interest me are canoes if that helps you guys steer me in the right direction.

Welcome to the Trad forum

This is a 3 5/8" Queen Canoe, in Amber bone with D2 steel
Queen is an excellent mid market company
The main blade is stout and will take alot of work, and the smaller blade as quite thin and will slice
D2 is an almost stainless steel that will gray with use, but might be difficult for you to sharpen.
About $45
This is also availiable in maple

There is Case and Boker that make good but less stout Canoes in bone.
Boker makes them in carbon steel what are easy to sharpen
Case makes them in SS

Eye Brand is another great company that makes slip joints. Here's one of their Copperhead Brown Jigged Bone Knives that I have. Very high quality, well made, with close fit and finish.

I'm not shilling for them nor recommending them but Smokey Mountain Knife Works (smkw) is probably the best place to go to see as many brands and styles of slip joints available on the market. Although not listed in the Makers List, GEC (Great Eastern Cutlery) knives are also listed. Just type Great Eastern or Northfileld or Tidioute into the search box and they will come up on the screen. When you've found a knife (brand and pattern) by a manufacturer, come back to Blade Forums and search our manufactures for the knife of your choice and place an order with them.

What model Old Timer?

Lord help you if you become addicted to older USA made Schrades. Currently, I am on a Schrade open stock kick. Got four 863s, a couple of 881s and an 808.

Love the shield and jigged Delrin.

Thanks for the help guys, just ordered me a queen cutlery and case canoe. As for what type of Old timer, its a stockman that he must have had for decades I remember him pulling it out in the early 80's when he took me fishing and it looked aged back then. Once again thanks guys!
