My wife inherited from her father what I think is a World War II-era Camillus knife. It looks very similar to the current 5-inch-blade Pilot Survival models offered by Camillus, but it has a six-inch blade. The other features are there: sawtooth back blade, stacked leather washer handle, hammerhead pommel, and the blade is marked Camillus N.Y. at the cross guard. Any information about this knife will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome to the forums...

Not a WW2 issue knife, but a rare one. Only the very first issues of the 'Jet Pilot's knife' came with six inch blades. These were introduced in the late 1950s, the first ones by Marbles, which proved to be too expensive for the military. Camillus produced the 6 inch bladed version up until 1962. After that, and even now, 5" blade is the norm.

The value for yours is about $150, more if in very excellent condition.

For those of you who frequent garage sales, a Marbles is worth about $1500 or more.

The Pilot Survival knife with the 6" blade was made by Camillus from 1959 through 1962. The early versions had a threaded tang with a screw-on butt. This was later changed to a peened tang. The sheath on the 6" version had the snap-on retainer near the guard.

These knives are highly collectible and can sell for $150+.

I apologize for mistaking your name, Tom. I read your post late last night, and relied upon my increasingly poor memory to write my reply instead of re-reading first! My wife's father passed away when she was seven, so your information about the dating of the knife has added a time frame to her memories of her father. That means a lot to her. Thanks again!
