I am looking for something similar to the new spyderco breeden rescue knife. I don't have a fortune to spend, and only need it to be razor sharp and reliable (besides the formentioned nose feature.

Basically a non pointed edge folder. I am new to the knife collecting game and apologize if my terminology was off.

Thanks for your time,

Fletch

Spyderco Atlantic Salt, Saver Salt, Rescue 93 mm, Rescue 79 mm, Byrd Rescue II, Byrd Meadowlark Rescue

off the top of my head those are a list of models by Spyderco that are folders with a sheepsfoot blade (blunt tipped- no point)

the byrds will run you around $30 US and the Spyderco's around $60 US

do you have a specific use or need in mind for the blunt-tipped blade or is it just personal preference?

No, the squared tip of the razel is sharp, so it doesn't work as a rescue knife. Basically you want a sheepsfoot blade. If you want something inexpensive, take a look at Columbia River McGinnis Tuition. It's about $30.

He didn't say it was going to be used as a rescue knife though, he just used the Breeden as a basis of the design he wanted.

Th sheepsfoot blade is used as a "rescue" knife and has become known as such generically across the board. Spyderco makes more sheepsfoot models than any other company I've seen before.

I apologize for my absence in the thread, but just had to make a drive from middle NC to Athens, GA. The knife itself is not going to be used as a rescue tool (save an event did come up backpacking). I just have a preference for the I guess sheeps foot blades. I work in remodel operations and when not doing that I cut a LOT of boxes open and cut a lot of plastic/metal ties. I already carry a small fixed blade knife for the tougher work, but while in such close quarters, I wouldn't want someone getting poked either. These are my two main reasons.

A: Coworkers borrowing my blade and poking themselves or others fooling around (not the greatest crew for safety)

and B: The shape just strikes me as something I could do a lot of materials slicing with, without dealing with a sharp point (with the exception for my fixed knife), I would have no use for a sharp pointed knife for the most part.

Sorry about the delay again, been a long and busy week (what month is this again?).

Sounds like you might benefit from a Wharncliffe blade shape too. It's like the sheepsfoot, only more gradual and slender.

Shrade or Camillus used to make an electricians knife .The blade is squared off and used as a screwdriver !
