I am looking to pick up a SOG folder to try out the ARC lock. Which knife is considered "the" SOG folder to get? At first glance, the Mini Vulcan looks good (ARC lock, flipper deployment, VG-10 steel), but perhaps there is another model that I am overlooking.

I personally like all the Sog Arc lock models. The Vulcan is a great knife in many ways. I also really like the Pentagon Elite and Spec Elite series.

The Arc lock on the Vulcan I have is incredibly smooth. I'd say its a tie between the Vulcan and the BM Rift (smoothest AXIS) I have. All the Arc lock models I have or had were like that. It's a great lock, Strong, smooth,, and reliable so far..

Best of luck!

I don't think you can go wrong with any SOG folder having Arc-loc. It's pretty much up to you as to how much you want to spend and the blade design that suits you. Go to SOG's website and check out what they've got, to help make up your mind. It's a very personal choice.

The spec elite mini is a great knife and it packs alot of knife in a small package. A little pricy but worth every penny. It is my favorite jogging knife, I clip it in the front of my shorts and go. I don't even know its there until I need it. I don't usually like clips on small knives but this one is well executed.

Vulcan or Vulcan tanto. If you have a bit larger budget, tomcat III or ltd in carbon fiber

I love my SOG Visionary I and II

perfect EDC, and has very sharp VG-10 steel with the arc lock, check it out!

I just got the full sized Vulcan Tanto with polished san mai blade. The sizing, balance, blade looks, and function exceeded my expectations and I'm very happy with it--definitely a keeper.

I think a good SOG folder to start with is the Flash II. It has the Arc-Lock, the assist, and a very good price. It will let you know if you like SOG folders without breaking the bank.
