Seems like I only like the knives I can't have

I've been looking at the Super Karambits for a long time, and I recently found the nerve (not to mention the spare cash) to buy one - lo and behold, they aren't to be found anywhere. :(

Just my freaking luck, isn't it? First the Persian, and now this. I hope this doesn't turn into another five year wait. :grumpy:

tough luck, maybe you should be more flexible :D
Actually waiting 10 years for a blade is quite flexible!
GL finding one...

Seriously. It took me five years to find the Persian I own now. Now I'm out on another impossible mission to find this Super Karambit. And it's not like I knew it was rare before I fell for it - I just had the misfortune of being late to the game.

Emerson knives are like redheads - all the good ones are taken or get snatched up the moment they become available, and the rest are just too weird to bring home to your mother.

I have both kerambits and personaly I feel the combat kerambit is the better of the two. The super isn't that much bigger and just doesn't sit as nicely in the hand or pocket for me.

I don't think they are any easier to find these days but if you look for both your have doubled your chanses of finding one. :)

BE--- Just get something to hold you over.
Maybe an AK knife will do the trick.

The blade on the Super is almost a whole inch longer, but that's not its main attraction to me.

The blade on the Super is also slightly less curved, so the angle at which you must tilt your wrist is less severe in order to get an effective arc cut. I've held both, and I liked the Super better. I'll buy a Combat Karambit, but not before I've exhausted my search for the Super.

I was looking at DJ's karambits and I think they're pretty slick, but I have different plans for him. I'm going to be building a 3D render in Maya for a knife I'd like him to craft for me.

Hey Bleeding- Warriors and Wonders has the Super in stock. Both black and stonewash. They don't ship outside of Canada as of May 8th, but it states in the FAQs to give them a call and they will work with you. Good luck.

I checked their site a few days ago, and it said it was out of stock!

I just called and ordered one, so apparently they've still got'em! Thanks for the tip, Bam Bam!:thumbup:

Blade Forums does it again! Pretty soon I'll have to sign up with Bankruptcy Forums!

Don't Emerson tend to make knives in batches? Perhaps with all the customs and online auctions they have not had time to meet demand for common production models? This is speculation on my part though.

I looked at the SK first also edge and came to this conclusion. For me it ended up that the CK was a good fit - but if I wanted a Karambit that had either more reach or better wrist angle that I would go for a fixed blade version. A mate of mine is getting one by Mike Maniord shortly with a 4inch blade - so I will look at that and how it feels.

Good luck finding the Super - it might end up that you have to watch the market section of this forum....or wait until there are restocks in shops OR order direct from Emerson.

No need to worry. I found one on Warriors and Wonders. Called in and placed my order, and the knife will be inbound tomorrow.

I'll be posting pics when it arrives, along with some comparison shots to my other knives. I'll also post an Emerson family picture when my Super 8 and Persian get back from Mr. Potter.

Cheers again for giving me the idea for the nice carry case for my CK. I have not started on it yet but I am working on ideas on how to make it look spiffy.

Hey Edge I just took apart my CK and removed the old grease and replaced it with Ballistol - its now smooth as. When you get yours it might be worth having a go with some high grade lube to smooth out the action. :)

Now that you mention it, I think I'll head down to my local gunstore today and pick up some Ballistol. Thanks for the reminder, Armalite.

No problem. If I can offer one or two more tips about Ballistol if you have not have much XP with it....

1 - it smells bad. But the smell fades within a couple of hours.
2 - You really don't need to use much of it on the pivots/joints. A little goes a long long way
3 - Try to get a little syringe without the needle to suck it out of the bottle and apply it. The spray bottles are not what you would want in this case and are more for guns.
4 - Using cotton tips, remove the black Emerson grease from all the parts before applying the Ballistol

They say that it is enviro friendly - but I do not put it on any blades I intend to eat with. On those sort of knives I just use a very light coat of "light" food grade cooking oil"

Alot of the trick once your Karambit it lubed is to ensure correct pivot tightness. I chose not to use glue on the threads but have found no "play" in the blade at the tension I have chosen and I have also found that the pivot is not becoming lose.

It is the first time I experienced a folder that felt pretty "stiff" out of the box - but am very happy with it after doing a bit of work on it.

Last but not least don't forget to wash your hands after doing the Ballistol - I would not want to see what happens if you rubbed your eye after messing with it :).

Regards

Sounds good, Armalite. USPS tells me my Super Karambit arrived today, so I'll check it out when I get home and, if I feel it needs it, I'll try some of your above recommendations.
