seems like it would not be unreasonable to make a linerlock para...

I was just fooling around with my Para, and thinking how perfect (IMO) it would be if it were a liner lock...

It seems like it would not take THAT much effort/setup to make a STOCK Para with a liner lock like the millie...

Seems like Spyderco could:

-use the existing handle
-use the existing nested MILLIE liners
-MAYBE use the existing millie CNC program to mill the pockets for the liners
-CHANGE the tang CNC program to make it fit...
(certainly it is a bit more complicated.... but MUCH easier than a completely new design!)

and VIOLA... have a DIFFERENT knife to sell, and I think it would sell well!

I think it would make the PERFECT EDC! CERTAINLY more pocket friendly than the extended tang of the Compression lock... not that I DON'T like the compression lock... but I definitely LOVE to see a variation that I think would make a better knife!

What do ya think... SAL???

I think the Para is perfect as it is. I greatly prefer the compression lock to any liner lock. I'd rather see the Millie with a compression lock than the Para with a liner lock. But that's just me.

The tang of your compression lock is extended? I've never seen one like that. I've never had any problems with my Para tearing up my pockets with the lock.

Yeah, I agree with moonwilson and LorenzoL. Millie with compression lock  rather than Para with liner lock.

I'm with archieblue. If there were a liner lock Para I'd probably buy one or two or three :D

Not that they should discontinue the compression lock though. Let's have both ;)

Was a bit apprehensive about the compression lock when I ordered my first Para D2, but it took little time to realize how great it is. I can deploy and nest the the blade one handed extremely quick with using only the lock. No thumbs or fingers ever near a cutting edge!

Handled a Para when they first came out. Don't think I'd want one, even with a mid-lock. Handled one, There's just nothing appealing about the design. Overly thick blade in overly large, bulky handle.

If the Military was switched to a compression lock, the tang would stick just like it does on the Para [doesn't bother me, but I know that's a common complaint about the Para].

On the flipside, why switch it to a liner lock when the compression lock is a hell of lot stronger and better suited for the design? I prefer the liner lock on the Military because it's well-designed, strong enough for my needs, and the easiest to open/close out of any lock design I own - but I don't see a reason to regress when the compression lock is just as simple, yet so much better suited to "hard use."

Because my EDC is not typically hard use. I carry FB's in my portable BOB for that. Convenience, ease of carry such as thin profile and low weight, easy one handed operation, etc. are all important to me for EDC.

Why would you want to take a step backwards like that?

Spyderco comes up with one of the finest locking mechanisms known to man and you want to change it out for a....liner lock?

Well... I like the Millie better, but I just don't NEED a knife that big.. and I prefer the liner lock for a few reasons... the Millie is MUCH more pocket friendly, and I just like the liner lock on the Millie better than the compression lock... just my opinion. I reckon my SnG is all that and more though... Just $270 more though! OUCH... but I guess you gotta PAY for what you want!

I'm trying to get where your coming from Archieblue. I carry both a Para and a Millie regularly, usually rrp. I actually find the Millie actually "bottoms out" in some pockets. The Millie is slightly more friendly than the Para when carried RFP. But in no way does it ever make me want a Liner lock version of the Para. I'd much rather see a Comp lock Millie.

I don´t care if the Para is made with liner lock or compression lock as long they make it 4 ways clip.

No! :thumbdn:

Keep the curved, tip down only, clip. :)

Personally I think that the locks for the millie and the para work perfect with each other. You have an easy and perfectly executed liner lock on the Military, great with gloves. On the Para you have a very strong, equally well executed lock.

I like the para. It fits when I want the millies blade shape and handle without the extra size. The blade/handle ratio doesn't bother me at all, actually I like it quite a bit.

Great point.

I like everything about the compression lock but its aesthetics and how it makes the tang stick out. But if it's as wonderful as everyone is saying (e.g., rated higher than linerlocks, using a linerlock is regressing, taking a step backwards, etc.) then why is it used on so few knives? Probably more expensive?

But for the record, put me down for a Para with a linerlock:p.

The compression lock is why I bought my para-millie. I think a para-military w/ a liner lock would be nice, but I would hesitate a bit more before I spent my $110 or so on it because it'd be a lot more boring/run-of-the-mill.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo the one thing that has kept me from even considering a Para is the compression lock. I just cant warm up to it. I find it odd and far more difficult to manipulate than the liner lock on the Military. I'm OK with not having a Para but I would hate to see the Mili adopt the same style lock.

I too prefer the comp. lock to a liner lock. I don't think I would go for a liner Para. my self.

why is it used on so few knives? Probably more expensive?

That's probably a good guess. I remember Sal saying that the comp lock is more difficult to manufacture but I may be mistaken. That may also explain why the Military and Para are the same price despite their size difference.

Love it or hate it on the Para, a liner lock would add another 1/4 inch of blade, and think how sweet that would be! Perfect in my opinion. I love both the Mil and Para as they are, but the blade on the Mil is just a bit too long, and on the Para just a bit too short (for its handle size). Imagine the Para with the same handle but with a blade that's a touch longer. It would solve its aesthetic problem due to the wonky proportions and give more cutting surface at the same time.
