Seems Slow Here ?

The major issue that this subforum has is that there's a Becker subforum that's been around for years longer, and there's a lot more conversation going on over there just because of the longevity. Most people who'd be chatting over here just do it over there instead, it's not intentional just happenstance.

Nailed it King.

I only hang out around here to help with ID and info on the earlier KA-BAR knives, I don't really care much for their modern stuff, but love and have hundreds of their oldies, mostly pre-WW2. I also like all Union Cut knives including Olcut and Keenwell. I have probably the largest collection of early Union Cut/KA-BAR brochures and price lists to base my info on. Been collecting these sweet knives for over fifty five years and carried a stag handled circa 1930 hunting knife all through my BSA years.

And we (at least I do) really appreciate your knowledge of the oldies.

I have one coming in that is a pre-1931 Western fixed blade with split nut construction that I "think" is either an early Case or Kabar because those 2 made the first fixed blades Western sold, before Western started manufacturing their own around 1929/1930.

All true, and you always seem to have all the logical answers

I have always loved the look and history of the old blades. Little by little I am learning about them. I constantly see knives that I am interested in buying but my knowledge base is to limited and I dont pull the trigger on the purchase. The last older blade I picked up was a ADACO I did some research on it and found it really interesting.

Wayne, if the knife you refer to was just on ebay and has a leather handle and brass cross guard it was made by Marbles, the other company that made fixed blades for Western in the early days. I have early Western hunters made by KA-BAR, Marbles, and some that look like Case products but were most likely actually made by Kinfolks since Kinfolks made the fixed blades for Case from 1926-about 1932. Case could have made some for Western before 1926. The 1925 Western catalog and price list show the Marbles hunters and list them as Marbles but we cannot know the ricasso marks from the catalog, I think they would have Marbles markings but I have a definite Marbles Ideal with the Western States mark just like the one recently sold on ebay.

i usually just lurk. i've been on a few camping trips lately, and my wife got a few pictures, but i'm not a cell phone guy. also not much of a photographer. i can see good pictures in my mind, i just can't get a decent shot of them. also, i'm too busy having fun. so.... without much to say or show off, i usually just lurk.

Sure would like to see some pictures. Sometimes im stuck in the house or just around the yard. When you post up pics of your camping trip it allows me to get to the woods vicariously.
