I was reading through timezone.com yesterday and stumbled across a thread that stated Seiko 5's aren't waterproof. In fact, they guys were saying that they don't even trust getting their watch wet, even if it says waterproof to 200m.

...

I wear my seiko5 into the shower all the time. When it gets muddy or sweaty, I fill the sink up a little with warm water and dunk. Are the boys at timezone too cautious, or am I going to wake up one day to a flooded watch?

I've worn (almost daily) my Seiko 7T32 alarm/chrono for close to 4 years now. It's rated 100M water resistant. I always wear it in the shower and also worn it swimming in both pools and salt water. Never had a problem, and if it dies on me, fine, I'll get a new one for $100. After 4 years of service, it's about time. :)

Perhaps next time I change the batteries I'll have the watch guy take a look at the rubber seal. These batteries run forever though. I've only changed them once, and that was only before a long trip so it wouldn't die unexpectedly.

Man, you guys have gotten me watch obsessed lately!:D

Anyone know if there's a current iteration of the Seiko SUS military automatic? It's easy to find their "military auto" on their many sites, but it's apparently the smaller-sized, less robust, non-hacking version.

re: Seiko SUS military. Sorry no such luck on a reissue of the SUS military auto. It's really a beautiful watch and contains the higher end 4S15 automatic movement. There have been a handful for sale on various sites but the going rate on these seem to be $375-$500.00 depending on condition. Apparently military watch collectors are snatching them up despite them being non issue items. Seiko has changed their SUS line substantially. All models are now quartz and have much different styling. For those who want to see this beauty, here's a link.

Also here's a pic of my modern quartz SUS

He cleans his watch with rubbing alcohol and Qtips! Hmm.. I guess, it's likely that he has a significantly more expensive Seiko 5 than I.

I've been pretty rough on this watch, since my purchase on May 12, 2003. The bracelet is kind of bashed, the crystal is developing a nice coat of light scratches. So. I'm gonna shower with it every day, and bash it into ****, and not do a damn thing different from before I read that post at timezone.com. If it dies, I guess I'll let you know if you want.

Not exactly with the 4s15 movement but nice looking nonetheless is the 7s26 Seiko Field Military watch from Bill Yao
