I recently bought a SEIKO SKXA33K, which is the newest in the Seiko Auto Dive watch menagerie. I must say that I am pretty happy with it. It is large (45mm diameter and 15mm thick) and nice and chunky on my rather large wrist. The lumibrite is REALLY bright.

There is a huge collection of fine Seiko Dive watches.

Any comments? Comparisons with Citizen etc?

I'll let you know in a month or so. I bought a Seiko automatic diver and the crown stem broke in the first 24 hours of ownership. The watch is now on its way to Coserv to be fixed. It could just be a fluke manufacturing defect though. It happens, so I won't base any opinions on one bad circumstance.

I am a bit concerned about the durability of automatics in general. I love the idea of wearing one, but wonder if an extremely active lifestyle is better suited by quartz. I normally wear G-Shocks.

Buzz,

I wouldn't worry too much about it. My Seiko's been in my daily rotation for over 12 years and it still runs great. I have a buddy who's a firefighter and after getting one it's all he'll wear. He's been through a couple but he says that they last longer than any other watch he's tried (G-shocks included).

I received my Seiko "Orange Monster" SKX781K3 yesterday. Obviously, less than 24 hours is not going to tell me anything about it's durability. However, my other Seiko Diver (quartz, model #5H26-7A09) which they don't even make anymore has served me well for 12 years.

Based on the write-ups on my new Seiko and the positive reviews of the 7S26 movement, I am encouraged. But time will tell. Besides, we all know that Buzzbait abuses his stuff (of course I am kidding). ;)

No you're not, he probably broke the crown stem prying with it:p

I'm a big fan of Seiko divers. Mine is pretty much beat to pieces (mechanism still works fine), but I will likely buy another one soon.

I just received my SKX007K2 with the Jubilee band today, and I am loving it so far. Hopefully it will last me. I've been bitten by the watch bug, and I'm already looking at my next specimen. I hope it doesn't get worse.

Buzz is like the MacGyver of BF. If it gets his stamp of approval, then its got to be tough.

I don't know about the MacGyver of BF, but I'm the Cliff Stamp of watches. Don't ask me why. I can kill a watch just by looking at it. I got to wear the Seiko for one day at work. By the time I got to work, the hardlex crystal already had a scratch in it.

It's like my arms go spastic whenever a band hits my wrist.

Yo-yos alone have destoyed 4 of my pocket watches, which are my preferred style.

i bought my seiko black monster in '79 and have worn the heck out of it, swam/worked out/ran/biked/worked, this watch has seen it all - havent worn much for the last 6 yrs, i got a tag then a rolex, but it still keeps good time and looks pretty good too, and never been serviced!! my wife bought a ladies seiko divers watch, smaller and battery operated quartz movement, not an auto, and it too still works, never serviced, has used several batteries, she got it in '81, again she does not wear it too much any more, she now has a tag and a rolex too, but for 2 watches to last this amount of time w/no probs, is something else. the only down is that both of them have needed several bands thru the yrs. thats it. great watches imho. have been thinking of sending mine off to bill yao for custom yellow or orange face, but i guess i outta get it serviced first.
