So after all these years I finally got around to ordering one earlier today. I ordered it with the rubber strap from Chronograph.com.

I'm wondering for all you long time users out there how much time your watch gains every week and has it gotten progressively worse since you first got it? I remember this being one of the few gripes that people had with this watch everytime I read a review.

Ps. Too late now I guess but is chronograph.com a reputable site to order from?

How much time a watch gains depends on the quality of the movement, be it mechanical or quartz. My Breitling has a Superquartz movement and gains ~ 7 seconds a year, but my Luminox gains 5 seconds a week. Mechanical movements usually gain more time as the works "wear in", but can be regulated as needed. As a rule most time piece collectors would rather have a watch run a little fast than slow. You will like the rubber strap. I wear a rubber strap on my Breitling in the summer and leather in the winter. TimeZone.com is a great place to get info on your new watch...

Nice watch. I have the monster and don't usually wear it long enough to notice the loss of a few seconds. I wear it for a few days and then not for another few days or weeks. If you let it sit more than 36 hours or so, you have to re-set the watch anyway.

I know some people wear it everyday, but it's a bit big -- especially with a dress shirt. Some people use an auto watch winder, too, but that seems like overkill to me.

I wear the SKX009 (same movement as the Monster). Read how to shape the rubber strap using hot water - easy to do and it makes the watch fit amazingly well.
After ~14 months of constant wear, it gains about 3 seconds a day.

My Orange Monster gained about 10 seconds a day when I first got it. It is fairly easy (they say) to take the back off and adjust the movement yourself if you have the tools. I was never able to do fine adjustments, so I took it to a watchmaker and he adjusted it for me for $10.00.

They are good strong watches and will last 20 years or so without maintenance. The problem is that they make thousands of the movements a year so the regulation is spotty. I got an orange Zulu band to wear with mine.

I've got the skx 171k which is the pre-monster monster with the same movement. I lucked out with this one and it gains about 5 sec per week - which is about as good as a mechanical watch gets I hear.

Time it over a few months and work out the average gain/day/week and take it to a watchmaker for regulating.

Then just adjust it to the other deadly accurate timepieces in your life (cell phone, computer, radio) from time to time.

Is Seiko -Is good. I wear mine daily and it's the most comfortable, durable and reliable timepiece I own.

(I have an Omega SMP, which is slightly more accurate, less comfortable and harder to read in the dark - the Sieko is a one-glance watch - in any conditions)

Mine seem to settle in after a few weeks. At first I was at 3 minutes a week. It settled down to about a minute a week. It didn’t bother me enough to go have it adjusted more. My wife broke her watch and borrowed it for a bit and it was back to gaining 3 minutes or more a week with her. I got it back and will watch it to see what it does.

I just got one of these and I really like it.

This is the watch we're talking about, right?

I don't pay much attention to how many seconds my watch gains or loses, though. There are so many clocks everywhere, if my watch ever starts to contradict the time on my phone, or my computer, at the bank, or on my radio-atomic clock at home, I notice and adjust accordingly. Nothing in my life ever has to be timed within more than an accuracy of 5 minutes or so.

I have a Black Monster, which I wore for good while. Nice looking watch, but the downside is that it is not as accurate as a cheapy digital Timex, and being an auto it will die if you don't wear it for a day or so.

exc watch, the 7S26 is a dandy, but it has the rep for running a little fast for the few months, i'd suggest you wear it for at least 6 months before regulating it. It'll probably gain about 5 seconds or so a day. great watch though.

I just put my Seiko Professional, that I bought back in Oct 71, from Higa's Pawn Shop, on Okinawa (still have the paperwork from when I bought it), back in ther drawer. I wore it daily from 1971 to 1989, to include the rest of my tour in Vietnam, a lot of parachute jumps and SCUBA dives, then got a round face Casio G Shock in 1989, then went to a Suunto Vector in 2000. I went back to Okinawa in 1985 but had to send the watch back to the factory in Japan, as I wanted new hands as I could no longer see them at night. I was told that the factory only made parts for 7 years and that is why I got it back with different hands. When I bought it you could only (reportedly) buy it in Japan as it was supposed to be a knock off of a Rolex Submariner, as it only opens from the front. It had something called a "HighBeat" and kept very good time, it still does not do that bad. I had let it sit for several years in my dresser drawer and thought it would not run, but after awhile it started running, so now I wear it a couple of days each month so the movement keeps working.

My local sam's club has them for $210 with a ss band. Should i jump on it??

Chrongraph.com has it for $188 shipped. I ordered a SS band from them for my black monster and it shipped from Singapore. Good service. Dunno if the warranty is any good, since it's technically grey market. But then again, I doubt the Seiko warranty is any good buying from Sam's Club either.

Regarding accuracy, I've been wearing my black monster since I bought it new in November and as far as I can tell it's spot on. I haven't had to adjust the time once to sync up with my computer. My MKII "Yaoified" 007 gained 27 seconds a day when new. Now I think it's more like 10 seconds. Enough that I haven't had to adjust it in the last 2 weeks.

Thanks for all the info and feedback guys.

I forgot all about timezone so thanks for the reminder about that site! Tons of reading material over there.

Now I'm keen on a Zulu or NATO strap..hmmm..

Recevied the watch today (8 days after the order was placed - used free shipping option).

I love the looks of this thing. Its a lot of watch but suprisingly very light and comfortable. The rubber band has got to go though...not a fan of it...

I'll be picking up either a Rhino, Zulu or NATO strap for it sometime soon..

they are fairly common at around $160 or so, i saw one at the gun show in austin last month w/a rubber band for $130 IIRC, SS band was ~$20 or so more, several sites on the net have them in that range also.
