any one use one of these because i have gotten one and had it for 3 years i just never used it how useful do you all think they are?

Too pc for me. I had one back in the 60s and didn't use it then. If you like it then fine with me.

Yep I have several and have used them for many years. I found a cup I like better though where the handle folds around the cup for packing. I like any steel cup because I can slap it right on the fire for a quick heat up, or you can cook right in it.

I still have mine from 30 years ago. There's probably something better now but mine still works. I like the fact that you can cook with it and the handle stays is long enough to be safe. I actually prefer to drink out of a porcelain tin cup as the drink stays hot longer than with a Sierra.

The original Sierra Club cup was made so that even if you had a piping hot drink in the cup, the lip of the cup wouldn't burn you. Cheaper clones made overseas didn't have that feature.

The cup works well as a (small) bowl to eat cereal, soup, or stew out of. It's easy to clean. You can hook the cup on your belt so it's always with you.

The only thing I didn't like about it was the fact that liquids in the cup might be blown out by high winds due to the shallow design of the bowl. Nothing is perfect. :o

You can find a larger 16oz version of the Sierra cup. This is my favorite because it is easy to find a small lid for the cup making it into a real cook pot.
A small mess kit pot lid fits very well.

We have a few Sierra cups. They have been relagated to our car camping ktichen tote. The shape works great for most foods and their easy to clean.

For lighter backpacking trips, i go with a ss Stansport pot with a lock-down lid and a GSI bottle cup, also ss.

Stansport ss pots with lock-down lids:

Stansport makes a .75 liter and a 1 liter pot with the lock-down lid. I think they were $5.99 and $6.99 respectively at our Sportsman's Warehouse. and excellent bargain, I think. I have been very happy with the pots.

The GSI bottle cup in on the bottle in the background. In the foreground are ss Cascade Cups. If anyone nows of a source for the Cascade Cup, please let me know. I bought the Cascade Cups about 9 years ago, and haven't seen them anywhere since.

I know the Sierra Cup is a staple among campers, Scouts, and backpackers, but I'm not a big fan. The shallow design and wide surface area make it too easy to spill. I carry an old plastic Rubbermaid cup instead...

Original Sierra cups are too shallow for general use, but good for what they were intended for (dipping water out of a stream) and hang compactly on the belt. I have a Coleman model that's a big wider/deeper that works well. These days, I'm mostly going solo and have a small titanium pot, about .8 liters, that I cook and eat out of.

I have a couple. They do not hold enough caffiene containing beverage to get me up to theraputic level:D

I have one of the deeper ss cups pictured on the bottle, but the wife known as "Wife" has an even larger one made of titanium that I hope one day to purchase one like.

Holy crap. I have never camped in such windy conditions that a liquid might be blown out of a cup or a bowl. You're more of a man than I am and I salute you. I have been right under an anemometer when it was reading 56mph. It was extremely difficult to walk in that kind of wind but I still would not have worried about liquids blowing out of my cup.

Anyway I still don't care for the Sierra cup.:)

Military canteen cup is far superior in every way.

Liberals may dissagree LMAO.

Skam

I tried sierra cups; they are a waste of time for outdoor living (IMO). Currently I favor the GI canteen cup for drinking, cooking etc. (It holds enough cofee too).
Enjoy!

i have bought an olicamp cup from campmor that fits the bottom of a nalgene bottle, and also like the canteen cup for use in the field, depending on what and where i am going. i have a small and large sierra cup dont like them as much for field use, but they are totally PC.
