Seki Cut Encounter (Bob Lum design) question

Hello, I'm thinking of buying the small Bob Lum Encounter made by Seki Cut, but I wanted to go around and ask around before taking the shot. So from what I've gathered Seki Cut knives are very well built blades, but unfortunately they aren't that popular in the US, hence the overall lack of much info about them. Is that so? Anyone had any problems with them? Or your general opinions on the knife.

Also I'm pretty much interested in the size of the small variant. I'm a bit confused because almost every online store has different sizes of the small blades. Can anybody give me a definite measurements of the opened knife and the blade length?

And finally can someone post a picture of the knife with either a Zero Tolerance 0350, Spyderco P'kal, Native 3 or Tenacious or Buck Vantage? I just need to take make a comparison, 'cause there aren't a lot of pictures of the knife.

Thanks in advance. :)

never held this pArticular knife but i have seen a few other they were all nicely made and finished but perhaps to gentlemanly for me.

Yup, I would agree. Although this particular model definitely caught my eye. Reminds me of Al Mar's SERE... Probably the red logo and the overall design.

I owned one of the small Encounters for a bit but sold it as it was quite heavy for its size and the extremely long thumb stud kept catching on things. A nice enough knife but not what I was looking for at the time.

Now that you mention it, there is a similarity. It's almost like the Benchmade Dejavoo as well.

If I remember correctly, Seki-Cut is on of the companies Spyderco has contracted with to produce models at one time.

They produce really nice stuff.

It's a very well made knife for general usage with very good value.

It's not a quick-draw knife, because the thumb-stud will catch your pocket seam. But it's an extremely good user - the kind you can use day-in-day-out for years. At first glance, you might think the liner a little thin, but it's adequate.

I think you get more bang of the buck with the larger version, which is comparable in size to the Benchmade 710.

The D2 is extremely sharp from factory. And with the design, you get the understated lines of Bob Lum.

You can get it directly from Japan through japaneseknivesdirect. I hear they're very prompt with shipping.

Sorry no comparison pictures though. I have none of the knives you mentioned.

Good Luck.

OK fit and finish, annoyingly long thumb stud and probably the worst looking pocket clip ever conceived, the pocket clip is thick, overly bulky and has poor design and attachment. The rest of the knife was great. I ended up selling my encounter.

You can always add custom thumb studs and get a nice Ti clip made for it. You should pick one up if you are interested, it's easy enough to sell ot trade if it's not your speed.

Yeah, I've heard about the pocket clip on the little one. Still though I can get a custom one done if that's too much of a problem. And I'm leaning towards the little for a couple of reasons - the large one's blade length is borderline legal in my city, though that isn't such an issue, since the police isn't usually very strict about this policy, but if somebody wants to give me hard time I can see this being a problem. Also I guess I'm used to carrying knives this size', 'cause Spyderco P'kal, SOG Aegis and Zero Tolerance 0350 are my most used EDCs. And they are all within the 3 - 3.5" blade length range.
