Has anyone had a chance to use any of the knives from the new Seki-Cut brand? I saw them at the Blade show and the quality seemed to be quite good so I was curious how the actually held up in actual use.

I looked at some at Blade West last year in the traditional Japanese style with Corian handles. The sure looked nice and were priced good.

I have occasionally read good things about their sporting knives on other forums. Nothing real detailed but, overall good feedback.

I saw a 'Little Blue Liner Lock' at the Gunshow Today.

All I heard when I asked about them was the are a bit fragile in finish (get beat up pretty easy). For a gentlemans knife they should be sweet!

The few things I have a with Japan on them are very nice indeed.

"In 1992, twenty Seki knifemakers formed an Outdoor Knife Section of the Seki Cutlery Association to promote their outdoor knife products. The group has its own "Seki Outdoor Knife Show" every October in Japan.

Two years ago, this group firms decided to work more closely together and sell selected products from each in the world market under the brand name of "Seki-Cut"."

Seki Cut seems to be effectively a guild of sorts containing the best manufacturers in Japan. G.Sakai, Hattori and Moki have had connections to various US companies for some time now. Sakai used to make the old Al Mar knives, ( and still do for sale in Japan ), and they make some of the Spyderco line I believe; Hattori I believe make some of the SOG line, ( I have a sneaking suspicion that they also make the Fallkniven Northern Light series, though that is only a guess ); Moki make the current line of Al Mar knives and the standard Fallkniven line. They also made the limited edition Jess Horn folder that Spyderco offered a few years back with bone scales, ( again it is still available in Japan ).

I personally wouldnt hesitate to use a knife by any of the above makers. I am particularly fond of the Moki brand and have several of their knives. The fit and finish is second to non.

As a side note, if you want to buy direct from Japan, Ohyasuya are exellent dealers. I have bought from Mr Ideta on two occassions and found his customer service to be exellent. Their website is: http://www.ohyasuya.co.jp/aigo/indexeng.html

Hope this was of some help.
