Seki Japan Made Carbon V

I have a Cold Steel Trailmaster that says Carbon V made in Seki Japan on the blade.

Doers anyone know what steel was used in the Carbon V made in Seki Japan Trailmaster?

I know different steels were used and marketed as Carbon V but I've never seen one before that was made in Japan and no idea what steel was used.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Yes, I would like a definitive answer myself.

I'd always thought there was a standard "recipe" for Carbon V when it was around, but recently found out that there were different versions of the steel with slight changes in chemistry depending on who was using the steel.

That's what I'm trying to find out. The various steels used in the USA made Carbon V are well documented and after a little research I found out quite a bit but the actual steel used in the Seki Japan made Carbon V remains a mystery.

Just really curious as to what it is.

In what year was that knife made?

I wish I knew. The friend that gave it to me said he ordered it from Cold Steel directly well over ten years ago. I'll get in touch with him and try to pin it down and let you know.

I did read a thread though that was posted in 1999 that said the CS Trailmasters made in Japan were five years prior to that so that would put it around 1994 but I have no way of confirming this.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks.

Talked to my friend and he said he bought it mid to late 1990's. Around 96-99, and that it was in their Sale circular. Best I can do as far as when it was purchased. As to when it was made I don't know.

Thank you for asking and anything you can find out would really help.

Thanks.
