Selector blades?

Hey guys,

I kinda halfheartedly tried to win a Selector an hour ago or so on the bay. It went for 38 and some change I believe and was at 35 when I saw it with 10 min or so to go. Seemed like a good price. No box or paperwork but looked in very nice condition with sheath in same or better conditon. I had a serrated balde and the hawkbill type blade.

Are other blades available for it, and how easy are they to come by? The reason I was half hearted is that I want a Selector, but neither of those blades did anything for me.

Thanks in advance
Fritz

Fritz, I think David M. is a selector guy, not sure who else. I would like to get a free one but just use the dough other places...see the blades around. 300

I have one. I have the standard 110 blade and skinning blades for it.

I actually bought the blades before the knife. I found them at a Gander Mountain store on clearance for $1 each. I bought the clip and 2 skinner blades, my brother bought some as well. Then a few years later I found a seller at a gun show with the knives and sheath for $16 each. I bought 2, one for me and one for my brother.
I believe you could also get a drop point, safety gutting blade and saw blade for these. I see someone has the whole set for $180 on ebay.

Here are some some pictures of blades. I need the Drop Point on the knife in the top picture for a project knife I would like to do.

Thanks guys, the one I was looking at had the gutting and sawblade blades and neither were very interesting. Great info-thanks again.

Sithus, No its the prunning blade and was offered in both the plain edge and serrated . They are hard to come by as well as the skinner . I can't believe you picked up selector blades for a buck . What a deal . There were 10 different blades offered for the Selector and 3 handles(4 if you count the two blade handle) . It was introduced in 1988 and by 94 it was on its was out . DM

Here's one I got, NIB... I wish I could get some more blades for it... NOS from a Gun shop in SD last year... ITE ...

Thanks E . My boxes did not look like that they were cream and blue color . There were also two different weight handles . I'm guessing from two different molds . Look on the inside at blade well . In that area some are smooth and some have divots which reduce weight . DM

The drop point comes in plain edge and full serrated. The clip point comes in plain edge and half serated. The gut hook comes in plain edge and half serrated. The hawk bill comes in plain edge and half serrated. The buffalo skinner comes in plain edge only. The saw of course is fully "serrated". I have modified many premium 110 blades to work in the Selector handle, and I have also modified Titanium handles to accept Selector blades. The model 186 Titanium knife will accept Selector blades if you remove the pivot screw and move the pivot bushing to the Selector blade. I have also added pocket clips to plastic Selector handles by installing #2-56TPI helicoils in the slabs. I have also reground Selector blades to meet new job descriptions. It gives new meaning to the phrase "modular knife". Are we having fun yet?

The two blade model is a turkey because the permanently installed plain edge clip point blade does not lock. All the other blades fit on the locking side.

Tiguy, that's what I don't like about that one two... Is there anyway to modify that clip blade to luck??? ITE ....

It wouldn't be an easy job to make the non-locking side of the two blade Selector a locking side. The spring back strap would have to be replaced with a rocker, a rocker pivot bush, a spring holder, and a wire spring. To get a Selector rocker, you would have to disassemble a one blade Selector. The Selector rocker has its spring notch in a different spot than the 110 rocker. The biggest problem would be putting a flat on the blade pivot bushing that would allow you to slide a Selector blade on to said bushing. If you take the removable blade out, you can see the flat spot on the pivot. The non-locking side probably lacks the flat spot. I don't have a rivet spinner. When I take a riveted knife apart, I have to put it back together with screws. The one bladed Selectors have the blade pivot bush molded into one side of the handle. I am not sure what the internal contruction is on the two bladed model.

coincidentally, my buddy brought one in today for me to check out and it was the double blade-I see what you mean:confused:

This was a mystery to me as well .
I've made several saw blades for the Selector as that blade is too short to give much real use . I as well have made several blades for the Selector it lends itself to this and is such a great knife easily modified . DM

If you can make a longer saw blade for the Selector handle, you could probably also make a longer knife blade (like a 7" chef blade). The blades wouldn't fold into the handle though. Kershaw makes some larger exchanger sets like 5 blades and 2 handles, but nothing folds.
