I've heard that some locks self adjust over time.
like the SOG arc lock. "The Arc-Lock is self-adjusting over time and can be easily cleaned for long term optimal performance."

what does it involve, and how does it work?

Mine was self adjusting to the point of returning it to Amazon. Aegis. :o

Most locks are self adjusting, including liner locks, axis-style locks (like the Sog arc lock), triad locks, lockbacks, compression, you name it.

What it means for the SOG arc lock is made with the pin a bit bigger than the widths of the arc, so it initially sits a little further up. With time, and with wear, the bar will go deeper and deeper into the groove, so even after a lot of usage, the wear on the pin will not induce lock failure or blade play.

I agree with cziv though, I have owned 4 SOG products with the arc lock, and hated them all (I think they were the trident, flash, aegis, and vulcan)

I don't believe that SOG flash, trident or the aegis has arc locks. they may look like arc locks, but I don't think they are, but I think the SOG vulcan does have the arc lock.

Yeah, doesn't Benchmade say their Axis Lock is self-adjusting?
Would a Balisong qualify as a self-adjusting lock, or am I splitting hairs?

If you're concerned with wear on the deployment mechanism, you may want to think about a small fixed blade. There are a wide variety of neck knives and related products out there that may serve your needs better.

I have a CRKT M-1 which has been opened and closed thousands of times, and there is no wear on the lock. Realistically, unless you are worried that your grandchildren will wear out the lock, I don't think it's a concern.

Has anybody ever worn out a linerlock? How many tens of thousands of cycles would it take?
