I am still working on this one, have to finish the engraving on the other side, but wanted to show it off. I am excited about the possibilities this pattern has to offer. ( my next one will be a five blade with tweezers, toothpick and hoof pick on the spine, with a Self lock main blade)

Anyway, this one has forged 52100 main blade, 12c27 small blades, all with long pulls, the smaller blades have file long pulls to keep those grubby fingernails neat:D

The scales are quilted black lip pearl with 22k gold domed pins. This is the first one I have done domed pins on the pique work, but I think it is worth the extra headache. The bolsters have 22k gold inlaid engraving. The background is a throwback to Old England, (as is the prifile), as I didn't want the bolsters too dark, but darker than stipled background. The treatment is with paralell lines....let's all say it together....MONOTANOUS!!, But it looks more period and matches the overall tone of the knife. The edges of the bolsters have a delicate rope texture engraved on them. The edges of the handle, top, bottom and front are also engraved with running vines and small scrolls.

Let me know what you think!! Thanks for looking

with more of a clip point blade, but it is very nice.

Best Regards,

I like it Bailey, but I would like it better with a single blade - maybe a wharncliff. The pique looks very nice. It deserves some more pics... ;)

Bailey you must be a madman to tackle such intricate details. From what I can see it looks great, but your description of the fine features gave me more appreciation of the craftsmanship you brought to it than my uneducated eyes could see. This deserves a Coop photo when done.

Thanks for the compliments and comments. I draw a lot of inspiration from old patterns, and this one is VERY old. I have a soft spot for this handle shape with a spear point blade. I had made one for myself several years ago, and of course someone talked me out of it in a moment of weakness. I get to see that knife from time to time when at shows and the owner has it with him. I like it more every time I see it, which only makes me more fond of the pattern. The thing is, if you look through the book " Sheffield Exhibition Knives", there are many pieces in this profile ( not exactly, I did put my spin on it) with lots of different implements. I just like them all. Italains and the French can ornament like no other, but for straight forward elegance without clutter, the Brits have few if any equals. Old English patterns were my first inspiration in making folders ( along with WD Pease), and I just can't get away from them.

Bailey, that is one first class piece of work. Very elegant. Thanks for showing it to us. :D Mike

Hey Bailey,

If you do not have a taker on the next one, you do now!

Beautiful.
