Self stonewash finishing a blade?

It seems that it would be easier to take some sandpaper and put random scratches all over the blade to try and achieve a "stonewash" finish. I don't have the nerve to do it without knowing the results. Anyone try this themselves.

I don't think that sandpaper would do the trick. "Stonewashing" or "stone media tumbling" produces a distinctive look that is kind of "wavy" in my opinion.

Here's an example of a Kershaw Sapphire blade I tumbled at work for 2 hours:

The way tumbling 'beats out' tool marks is unique. My photo does not really capture it, but gives you an approximation.

For a satin finish, I use 1500 grit sandpaper wrapped around a square erasure. I rub the blade under a tiny bit of running water. I works out very well. I learned that trick here on the forums. The only negative thing that I can say about it is that you need to take apart your knife to get the entire blade. I have become quite good at that now also. :)
