Quick question --- for those that stonewash blades/Ti themselves, how do you prevent the stones from seriously dulling/chipping/nicking the blade or Ti edges?

You don't. Well that's not entirely true. If you search you'll find the thread that I made about a week ago on just this topic.

In the end I used a piece of wire casing that I glued on the edge. The idea was supplied by a member here. It lasted a few minutes of shaking and I got so so results. I posted pics in the thread.

Post up if you find a better way! ;)

Pretty good idea! I'll have to give it a shot when I have time! Thanks for posting. I'll be sure to reply back here if I come up with any other ideas.

I would consider using Sugru. It's a mouldable silicone rubber that sets fairly quickly, adheres well, and can be removed without residue. A little more expensive than the wire insulation approach, but in the grand scheme of things (where knives cost $xxx to $xxxx) not all that much of an issue. Unlike wire insulation you can also mask off sections of the blade that you don't want the stonewashing to affect, and you choose the area of coverage.

Never stonewashed a blade, but that's how I'd do it. Post feedback if you try it!
