I'm looking for a smaller, slimmer carry for more formal occasions. Help me decide which model.

Requirements:

-Sub 3 inch blade or close to it.
-Very slim
-VG-10 or "better" steel
-Under $200

So far I'm leaning towards the chaparral. Thoughts? Thanks for your help.

The Sage 2 would be high on that list, but the blade is 3 inches, does it have to be sub 3 inch? Maybe the techno or leafstorm if you are set on sub 3 inch. These are not "very slim" knives, but they do ride well in the pocket. If you are set on sub 3 inch the Gayle Bradly Air also looks really nice. All of these can be had for under $200 and all have better than VG-10 steel.

Edit to add: The Chaparral is also very nice, if it was me I would grab the one with titanium scales, though it is just at your price point.

I guess I should edit it to say near 3 inches because it's not like its for legal reasons, just preference.

They make a sleek, sharp little wharncliffe for around $100 street price, Des Horn, I believe. An excellent, very slim masterpiece.

The Caly 3 CF ZDP-189 is a nice little knife. I would also seriously consider the Air. The Air is quite a bit smaller though.

The Caly and Sage are close. I don't really like wharncliffes and the Air, while quite nice, doesn't seem like enough knife for the price.

No one has an opinion on the Chaparral?

If you're looking for something kinda unique, check out the Poliwog. It's a ball bearing lock, vg10 steel I think, and really thin. It is pretty wide/tall, but it feels great in the hand. The way the handle is designed, you have awesome control over the blade for fine cutting. Plus it comes in at about $100 on the secondary market, which is always nice!

I picked up a CF Chaparral a few weeks ago. Had been eyeing them for a while, but I picked up a small Vantage Pro instead, only to find out it was just a bit too small for me. I'm very impressed with the Chap, should have picked one up sooner; I would have saved a bundle on other knives that didn't fit the bill, lol. I think it's perfect for an office/formal setting, although I tend to carry smaller knives most of the time anyway. I think they're a steal at current prices. Should be pretty easy to find for under a hundy, shipped.

I have, or have had, the Air, Chaparral, Dragonfly G10, and Caly 3. The Air is small, slim, and light, perfect for just slipping in your pocket. No clip though if that bothers you. I sold the Chaparral, it was one of the very few Spydercos that did not have good fit & finish IMO. It opened gritty and the back lock was too strong I thought. I am sure mine was an anomaly however, as many people love them. The Caly 3 is excellent but a bit larger at the 3" mark. I really like my Dragonfly G10 as well, so if I had to choose it would be the Air or Dragonfly.

I'd consider getting the air if I were looking for a spyderco as a dress knife. If you can find an old lockback kiwi, that's a great one with vg-10.
