Ok, I have been seriously considering the purchase of Busse's Argonne Assault. Does anyone here have one? What tasks have you performed with it? Anyone Chopped with it. I currently do not own any Busse brand knives, and am simply wondering about quality, company experiences, uses, the hype behind their steel, and anything else you think is relevant. I have been wanting a trench knife for ages, and it appears that Busse is just about the only manufacturer that produces a quality, American Made product in regards to trench knives. I just want to cover all of my bases before I drop $700 on a knife.

The Argonne Assault is an amazing knife. I have not done much chopping with one but I have punched a few 2x4's with the knuckles. It is just a lot of fun. The hollow ground blade makes it an excellent slicer and the convexed tip can penetrate just about anything you can stab it into. The handle feels great in the hand and the spacing of the knuckles is great. It is one of those grail knives that you can beat on and then cry because it laughed at you and asked for more. If you have any other questions just let me know.

:thumbup:Check out the Busse and kin superiority thread, we don't really need to sell you, all selling points you are probably looking for have been documented 100xs over.
Good luck and yes the AA is a beautiful be for sure, you have good taste ..

If you're after a big chopper, the Battle Mistress models available on the website are the go.

But as far as a trench knife goes, you won't go wrong with the AA. Arguably the best one available anywhere. Ever.

Thank you for your answers. It's a rarer knife that not many people own, and this is the only place I could think of to ask the questions, haha. I know it's not really designed for chopping, but it's nice to be reassured that it can handle it.

I've been eyeing it myself. The only thing holding me back from pulling the trigger on it is the fact that I have oversized hands. I wear size XXL gloves (Hatch, Mechanix, et al.) and I can squeeze into size XL rubber/latex gloves (they stretch) while shredding any size smaller.

Are the finger holes larger than that of regular brass knuckles?

Is there a way to order a specific ring size for the knuckles?

I would hate to spend a few hundred dollars on a (n awesome) knife only to be forced to give it to my wife or sell it to some random profligate.

Best answer I can give you is call the shop and they will get you setup! Great customer service!

I wear an XL glove and have no issues whatsoever with the finger holes or spacing. There is plenty of room even with gloves on.

I haven't done any chopping with my AA, I see it as more of a fighter style blade. That being said, I am sure it would take the beating should you choose to try to chop with it. Their are much better designs for chopping though, As Rob stated above the Battle Mistress is a great chopper.

I am not really sure it can be called "hype" if it performs as advertised. Given the beatings I have given to many of my Busse knives, I don't see any of the claims made by Busse as being exaggerated.

I still don't understand how rust resistant INFI is given its chromium content. I guess that is why I don't make knives. :)

You see that is your mistake right there: thinking its hype. :P I can't speak for the AALB specifically, its a little too much weapon IMO as I spend most of my time using cutlery as more of a tool, but you won't be dissapointed by the performance. The one complaint I have seen about that model though is that the design is rather hand-size specific, and this particularl ELU had very small rather dainty hands. Busses are, almost without exception, built by and for people who have man-hands. If you're narrow across the knuckles, in all honesty you might consider looking elsewhere. Likewise, while chopping will be no problem for it from a durability perspective, if you want a chopper or a camping knife you might want to look at other members of the Busse lineup because the knife is designed (obviously) as more of a fighter than a utility knife so will have the balance and egros of such. It is, after all, a trench knife.

Just want to make sure all your bases are covered before you drop 700$ on a knife. ;)

Hype is not a bad thing. If something is "all hype", then that would be considered bad. I was simply referring to the utter excitement people exhibit towards their steel, and the commotion that follows when INFI is mentioned to anyone familiar with Busse knives. I stated earlier as well, that it would most likely be used as a trench knife would be used. I would not really chop with it, as that is not what it is designed for, as I stated earlier. It's just nice to know that if I did, it would not severely impact the blade's performance. As for hand size, i'm 6'5", about 225lbs, and I wear XL gloves. I imagine it will fit nicely.

All I can say is I'm 6-4 @ 265#'s. I have bent and or broke several other manufactures knives out there. I choose Busse Combat because of several reasons. Nearly all you already mentioned except HYPE. It aint hype. Yes there are steels out there that will take an edge and keep it longer, and then there are some you can beat on until the cows come home. BUT for an all around knife that you can beat, cut with, sharpen easily, some models shave with, IMHO they make the BEST knife on the market.

-Go do a search for Busse Combat Flex Test and watch some of the you tubes.
-Look up on the top of the Busse forum page and read: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/772715-Proof-Of-Busse-(and-Kin)-Superiority

I know there is a lot of neigh-sayers out there but until you or they actually pick up one of these knives and use them you/they will never know what INFI and SR-101 is about. Buy a knife and use it, if you don't like it then put it on the sale threads in the X-change. I'm not going to say that Busse is the only knife in the world cause that would be ridiculous of me. We all have opinions that vary just like the old Ford/Chevy & Remington/Winchester battles around the camp fire at camp. I'm just saying give it a try!!!

I'm not a big guy but I used a busse that was given to me in combat and when I lost it went right back to busse for another 1! I'm hard on my knives and I don't make alot of money but when I have the cash I buy busse or kin! And you can't beat their customer service and warrenty. Buy just 1 and you'll be hooked.

Busse makes a serious hard use blade. If you end up not liking it, they have excellent resale value. I have a Team Gemini Light Brigade and a 20th Anniversary Mean Street. I cherish them both.

What sold me on busse , I bought an original SHSH2 , it was unused and never sharpened , so it probably sat around 10 years or something like that , maybe longer , it was in great condition still had the original coating and the edge was still scary SHARP. So i took it into the woods and started to chop and baton through the hardest wood I could find , after about 2 hours I was hungry , so I went home washed the knife off , sliced some lemons for tea , it sliced them easily and very thin , this made me curious so I rolled up my jean on ended up taking all the hair off my shin with one movement , WOW. So it sat for more then 10 years , was never sharpened, it didn't rust , could still take an ass whopping for 2 hours and then after all that was still shaving sharp COOL!!

That's what sold me

Noss4 FFBM destruction video was also a factor
