Sell two to buy one.

I recently looked around at my guns and knives and considered my age, 73. I find that I have what I once thought impossible - too many. But, I still find from time to time that I want to acquire another. So I have a new rule. To buy one, I must sell two.

In view of this, I just turned a Hi-Power .40 S&W Practical and one of those Hi-Power hard chromed/gold trigger/adjustable sight 9mm's, with an old Ruger Security Six thrown in for good measure, into a new SIG P210 Standard and a truck payment. I still have a Hi-Power Mark III however, so that itch is still scratched. As for the P210, absolutely no regrets. It is all that it is cracked up to be.

I have just about quit buying Busses, but still have some wants. Haven't invoked the two for one rule yet, though. But it is coming.

I sold four Busse to get one Busse once. It was for THE ONE so no regrets at all.

I hope I don't get struck by lightning for this blasphemy, but I'm 38 and feel like I'm starting to accumulate too many guns and knives. I need to institute this 2 for 1 plan. You know what, I'll start it when I'm 40.

Hey Mike,
Sounds like you have a great collection of guns and knives! I’m just thinking out loud here but if you have sons or daughters that share in your love of guns and knives I’m sure they will be so proud to inherit those things. I am only 38 but have acquired a healthy gun collection in those years. My most valued guns however, are the ones my best friend, my grandfather left me.

Hopefully you have at least another 30 years of collecting to do before leaving that collection to someone.

I'm the same age and feel the same way. Starting to sell off some of the ones that have just sat around for years. Firearms are next.

There must be something that “clicks” when you’re staring 40 years old in the eyes, as I’ve been doing the same thing, paring down my collections to the ones I use and like more, and I’ll be 37 in May.

Probably, you start to reassess your priorities. I also had a baby last year and we are about to move, so I've really been trying to get rid of things I haven't or most likely will never use.

Yeah I look at my collection and then look around the farm at things I still need and I'm like, "Okay, I could sell this sword and get a log splitter and another load of gravel. I could sell these three knives and get a new riding mower. This gun and scope combo could cover the costs of 50 fruit trees for my orchard." Then I stick them all back in the safe and go check to see what's on the Exchange like a fool.

I think it’s best to sell a knife with the intent to buy something you really want or need. Like another knife. If you sell a knife and use the money to pay some bills, then you will miss that knife. If you use the money to buy another knife, then you got something to show for it. Also you can sell a few knives to justify buying one expensive knife that you really have no business buying. Lol.

Flogger: My son is not a fishing, hunting, or gun person. A very athletically inclined son, he found hunting and fishing just not active enough for him. I once said that hunting would have been a lot more fun for him if it involved running into pine trees trying to knock them down.

My daughter shared my love for hunting, fishing, and guns. At age 21 she was a hit and run victim and has permanent brain damage. Although she has a small but impressive Busse collection herself, she will never be able to live after we are gone in places that would allow her to keep them. The same for guns.

I have a few guns laid aside for my grandchildren, and will save a Busse or two for each of them, but that still leaves quite a few.

Mike,
So incredibly sorry to hear about your daughters accident. That breaks my heart to hear that.

that’s awesome she has her own collection of Busse’s!

I completely understand thinning the knife heard. I don’t have any biological children but I do have 2 step kids that I look at as my own. Unfortunately neither of them caught the hunting or fishing bug despite my best efforts. It breaks my heart to some degree especially since the outdoors has played such a huge role in my life. I’m 38 now and leaving my wife with an office and garage full of guns, knives, fishing rods, camo, etc... has definitely crossed my mind. I don’t want to burden her with sorting through it all when I’m gone.

I'm half hoping Biden gets elected and they ban "assault weapons," but grandfather the ones currently owned. Then after the prices triple or more, I'll be able to clean out my closet and retire. ;););)

Otherwise, I'm going to have to get a bigger closet.

I have 4 kids and they are already starting to divide out who gets what when I am gone. I am only 40 and they have everything already planned out.
I guess that is ok though since my spending habits have pretty much insured that they won’t be getting any money. They will all have some pretty cool toys to remember me by.
