I am the owner of about 9 years worth of numbered #003 Spyderco knives and some very unusual and rare additional pieces and groupings. The 003 number designates that the knives that I've collected are the third knife of each model that the factory produced. With only a few exceptions, most of my collection is new in the box and most knives are in MINT condition. I spent 7 years with the company and have moved on to other endeavors - so it's time to part company with a very unusual collection and create an opportunity for someone else to carry on with what I've started. The buyer of my collection, will also have the opportunity to continue to add to this collection by assuming my position as the #003 collector with Spyderco. Obviously, they would need to approve that transition at Spyderco.

Here's my question for the participants of this forum: How would you rank the effectiveness of various knife auctions? I'm also considering a sealed bid auction. Please post your thoughts and email me if you - or someone you know are interested in my collection when it goes up for sale in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks, Steve sjordal@aol.com

Steve, you might want to consider posting this in the 'Exchange' under 'Knives For Sale Or Trade'. Not everyone from there posts/reads here and vice versa and you might get some more specifics from guys over there that sell/trade all the time. Here's the link to get you there quick:

Hi SJORDAL,

You haven't told how extensive your collection might be. It is obvious from your post that you would like some collector premium for the set as a collection. That's fine, as a result you would ideally want to sell the entire set to a single individual. Where to go will depend on the total $ value for the collection.

Ebay, and This forum usually works well for middle to upper middle level collectables. If we are looking at a potential dollar value in excess of $1000 (and I suspect your set may be many times this number) you may want to work with a reputable broker like Bruce Voyles. Bruce should be able to run your collection by the right size fish.
