I'm toying with the idea of upgrading my membership to "Knifemaker" so I can sell in the For Sale forum. So who here sells knives there and how easily do you find that they sell?
Thanks.

Yeah, you've just got to pay for it. I don't have a lot of money (mostly because I spend more time making knives than working at a real job and I don't make much money on knives because I've got to spend more money to sell them) so I want to make sure that my investment of $45 is going to be worth it.

yep, id rather spend $45 bucks on some charcoal or steel though i dont have the cash for anything besides that because ive just recenlty started civil war reanacment, and im sure you know how much that stuff costs!

Just tack $45 extra onto the first knife you were thinking of selling here and it pays for itself. Of course, if your knives suck you wouldn't be able to give them away, so I guess it depends more on the knives than anything else! :D

I've always just traded mine, for the most part, but it's tough to make $$$ that way.

I think I make reasonably good knives. I got a lot of good feedback at the knifeshow I went to in November and even sold one. The only negative comment I've really gotten is that I use too much black micarta.
Here's a good picture of one (no micarta):

Nice looking work there. I doubt you would have much trouble selling them as long as the price isn't outrageous.

I haven't had any luck selling in the for sale forums, so I guess, my prices are outrageous. ;)

On a serious note, I would reccomend it, just for the fact that it helps keep this place going, and you get exposure to the buying public.

Thanks, I'm real pleased with that one. My prices are pretty standard or a little low - they average at about $200 but sometimes I can be talked down a little. I priced the one in the picture at $120 (6" of 440c overall with a 2.25" edge and plexiglass scales). If I made it again it'd be more expensive because I'd use 154cm.

It is curious because I asked exactly the same question
at this moment. I dont have a lot of money to spent and
I wonder if peoples sell a lot on this forum.

I've sold several here. I've never kept count but the membership fee is the cheapest way to get exposure and help support a huge knowledge resource.

It will be the best money you will spend. You may not sell every knife you list, but every knife you list will be seen by more potential clients than at any knife show. Register before Spark figures out what this is really worth. Best of luck.

I haven't sold any knives I have made, none were good enough yet anyway. I did sell one kit knife I did up in the exchange forum a long long time ago. However I have also contacted a few makers, and bought/ordered a few knives because of what I have seen here. So keep in mind that you might not sell the exact knife you post, but you will still be advertising to many potential costumers. Having something up for sale, IMHO as a buyer, gives an idea of the types of knives you are making, your skill, and a price range. That could also lead to sales.

The money invested isn't really that much, and the only reason I haven't upgraded to Knifemaker myself is that I haven't yet made a knife worthy of giving myself that title. So for now I remain a Gold member.

HTH. :)

I've never sold a knife on the for sale forum but post them any way for the exposure. My market is local, but it's great to get exposure worldwide. I pay for the knifemaker's subscription to help support the forum. You also have access to the whole forum experience.

$45 for a year long knife show, and you guys are questioning the price? Come on. Thats a no brainer. If your stuff is good it will sell. If it doesn't sell, get better. Beats $500 in table fees plus $400 in airfare plus $450 in lodging for a three day show.

If you are just playing, thats fine. But if you are in this for real, put down your money, make a knife that people will want and take your chances.

From my experience, most knife buyers who are going to drop $100.00 or down on a knife want to "feel it, touch it" to be sure it is what they really want. The problem with computer images is they're two dimensional and you can't really get a grasp on the reality of the knife in question. If you are a household name maker, well then that's a different scenerio. Their knives have been in the hands of so many people for so many years, they sell simply by word of mouth. I know myself, I have ordered factory knives without first handling them and was disappointed once I got it in my hand. I think this holds true for custom knives also.

I tried my first posting in the For Sale - Fixed Blades section week before last. It sold in less than 24 hours.

Smooth transaction......the buyer posted positive feedback in that post and in the Good, Bad, and Ugly section.

Maybe I just got lucky........We will see.......I will try another one there probably Sunday or Monday.

As it's been said already, $45.00 is alot less than most shows. We've sold quite a few knives on there and I know alot of other folks who have as well. I've never had a problem with a sale/transaction form anyone on the forums. I don't think you can beat it.
