I recently learned my father only has a short time left to live, maybe 6 months, maybe a year...they're not really sure. We just made one road trip down to Tampa to see him because my youngest had never even met him (she still doesn't know that he is dying) and stayed a week which ate all of our savings and then some and I need to go back soon. I need to do some maintenance on the truck first though so I am selling a few knives to fund it. One of the knives I am selling is a Hiking Buddy. I do love this knife but right now I really need the funds, and maybe I can pick up a high saber ground version later on. The thread is here.

I am very sorry to hear about your father. I can sympathize deeply as I lost my father just this past October. I'll be praying for your father, yourself and your family during this difficult stretch.

Thanks guys, I appreciate that.

I lost my mother when I was 15 and my father and I haven't exactly been close since my childhood, but I'm really not prepared for him to be gone. He had a full life really, he was a Marine who fought in Korea, he has traveled around the world on Navy ships and seen a lot of things, from what I can tell he had fun in his shine running days back in the 50s, he owned a salvage company and used to treasure dive in the Caribbean. We spent a lot of time fishing and hunting together up till I was around 14 but we sort of drifted apart after that. We've both spent the last 32 years for the most part going our separate ways. I did get to tell him a few things I had been needing to say for years on this last trip, but thought of a few more on the way home.

I'm sorry to hear that one of life's most stressful situations is knocking on your door. Take it one day at a time. I wish you the best.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the moral support.

BTW the Hiking Buddy has been spoken for.

Mist sorry to hear about your father, my condolences. I hate to see you sell your hiking buddy. I remember seeing you post in the great outdoors with it, and I thought those had to be the best looking scales I have seen on a fiddle. Good luck.

I lost my dad when I was 20, very suddenly. Don't even remember my last conversation with him, because I just always figured he would be around. Now I always remember to tell my mom that I love her when I see her. My thoughts and prayers are with you my brother...

Bummers dude. At least you are able to spend time with him before he goes. Good luck with your sales.

Thanks guys, much appreciated.

I fell in love with the handle at first sight, I wanted a convex but couldn't resist the box elder. The one bright side in this is that a close friend who is a member here and lives locally saw it and made me a deal to give me most of that money and then just hold on the Hiking Buddy so I can get it back at a later date with no time limit.

Sorry to hear that, Mist. I truley hope he is at peace and his family is open to heal.

Sorry to hear that. I lost my dad last November and Mom's time is short now as well. Prayers for your family to get through this tough time...

That is a beautiful knife, i kind of wish Andy would go back to putting bolsters on some of his new knives...

I am a former Marine.

If your Hiking Buddy sale this falls through - I will buy it from you - make a sheath for it - and put it back up for sale.

You can have the profit of the sheath too if needed for your trip.

Thank your father for me and tell him we, and the people after him, are doing our damndest to carry on a tradition fine Marines that lived through Korea earned for us.

I'm sorry to hear this time has come for you. It came for me over 20 years ago.

Stay strong and try to make it a bit easier on the little ones.

If that sale falls through, either Talfuchre or I will help you. Just let us know.

Respect for your father. Not that many Marines left who suffered through Korea.

Thanks all of you for being such supportive friends, it is a humbling experience that I'm not really used to.

And thank you Tal, I will pass that along

Of course you aren't.

I strongly suspect you're a very self-sufficient guy. That's a good thing.

Every once in awhile, even the very self-sufficient might need a little hand.

And that's fine, too.
