Hey everyone,

Been away from this forum for a while but I still do read it all the time. Well I'm selling one of my black schmack tacticool knives and getting ready to buy up a slippie or two.

I will have around a hundred bucks to play with. It's been a while since I had a good slippie. I have owned a Queen stockman, a Queen canoe, and a couple Bulldogs. I've never owned a Case. I also used to have a couple of Schrade Uncle Henry's.

So I'm excited to say the least. This is not really a "what should I buy" thread but more of a "yay I'm excited" thread. :)

I'm thinking of getting a nice Boker stockman in 1095 or maybe a Queen in D2 or 1095. Right now I'm drawn to the Gunstock pattern along with the stockmans, whittlers, and Canoes.

I'm like a kid in a candy shop.

Just sharing my joy.

It's funny, I'm 35 years old, yet the older I get the more I realize that I have no use for the thick bladed folders. If I need/want a thick blade I will go with good fixed blade. In fact in the last 3 years there has been nothing that I have cut with my Tacticool knives that I couldn't have cut with a small slippie or SAK. Go figure.

Does not compute, man! If you've never owned a Case, you need one. I strongly suggest you pick up a newly made Case slippie in CV steel.

I had a similar realization a couple years ago. I'm 39 now. Glad to have you back into the folksy fold. :D

Ever since enterin' semiretirement, I don't find the need daily, to EDC a big bladed knife, I find myself with more smaller traditional folders in my pocket and they suit my current needs.

Check Canal Street Cutlery or go back to what works, I still EDC a 70s Queen Serpentine Jack with Winterbottom Bone Scales.

Northwoods made a fine Gunstock,I think I saw a few around still, listed on a few internet knife sites

Same here. I have a custom tactical fixed blade that should be getting finished soon. I may sell it soon after I get it and place an order from one of the custom slipjoint makers. I recently bought a couple of Case vintage slipjoints made in the 60s and 40s and they are so nicely constructed. It is however strange to carry something as old and I am or my father-in-law.

I'm going through the same thing. I've fallen in love with slipjoints and can't get enough of them. Been carrying a Case Sodbuster jr and just the other day I got my dark red bone CV peanut. Love at first sight.

I too would recommend some CV Cases.

And the word spreads.

Welcome home fellas!. :)

Y'all come back now, here!. :D

Just jack'n with y'all here about the old Beverley hillbilly's motto up above . . Seriously, I hope you get what your looking for, but if you don't find it right away, please let us know! We will always help!

Good for you David, I'm thinking of doing the same. My cutting needs do not need a Tack-T 95% of the time.

Looking at that new Case sway back in Stag... Mmmmm Now if it only was made with CV.

Welcome Back David. I think you should enjoy the search, take a while and look around - that's half the fun!

Glad to hear that you are growing wiser in your blade choices. I'm sure you know here you will have plenty of company.

Let us know when you narrow it down.

Thanks folks.

Well I'm actually looking at some of the offerings from GEC, Tidioute, and Northfield.

I am specifically considering the following...

Tidioute # 73 Chocolate EC Bone
Northfield #73 EC Primitive Bone

At the same time I want to just get a good old Case Yellow Stockman or Trapper in CV.

I also like the Queen Canoes and Gunstocks for some reason. I prefer 1095 over D2.

.....but...I also like Whittlers and Barlows. I can see this could be never ending.

We'll see what happens. :)

I love buying slippies!

I think Moore Maker makes some of the best looking knives going. The Queen made ones are the "top shelf". The "working" knives are now made by Boker and Bear. You can still find some of the Camillus made Moore Makers work knives around, and they're my favorite. They come in yellow delrin and black buff horn.

In any case, good for you! Can't wait to see what you get.

I have a few Case whittlers. They are a knice knfe to throw in the pocket.

Have fun and never rule out the muskrats, or congress, or elephant toenails, or......
