Selling out

For those of you who purchased a knife directly from the SURVIVE! website without a preorder, how long did it take for an entire model to sell out? When more knives become available, how much time will there be to purchase? A week? A month?

Thanks!

I dunno about pre-orders. However, my "in stock" knife (GSO 4.1) took around six weeks for someone to screw the handle scales onto it and put it in a box.....

Thanks for the post, Brommeland.

I'm interested more in how long a knife will stay available once it becomes available, not so much the wait time after ordering.

It took about 2 weeks for the GSO 5.1 to sell out this most recent time.

My understanding is that some models (necker, necker ii, and GSO 3.5) will always be offered, but the rest are offered in rotation.

Wow, thanks, Badey. I had not heard the part about regular and rotating stock, but it makes good sense. I'm surprised the 4.1 isn't on the regular list, every one seems to be going crazy for that model!

It always depends on the model and how many we have available. Being a younger company it is hard to give you good statistics because every batch has been different for some reason or another. For example: Last year we had GSO-5.1s but some of the production batch went toward preorders and another portion went to dealers, so what we actually had available sold out almost immediately. As such, people were antsy for them this time around so we listed them for sale as soon as we had materials available. When those materials ran out the knives would be out of stock until more materials arrived. We do have a few more blades being finished up that will be available soon, but after those we are out until the next production run is complete.

If there is a particular model you are interested in I can give you specific information.

The information about regular vs rotation isn't entirely true. We would like for all the knives to be available all the time but because demand outweighs production time, they are all on rotation.

When we have hundreds of orders placed at a time we definitely do more than just screwing handle scales onto one knife and putting it in a box. Mostly there is a wait because there is a line and only 3 of us. We do the bow drill divots and ferro notches for each order that wants them. Guy also sharpens every blade himself. Every knife gets looked at carefully and every order is double checked before it leaves. We spend a lot of time with these to make sure every customer is happy.

Lately we have been delivering in 3-4 weeks and are expecting to shorten that wait even more by the end this month.

Thank you, Ellie! I'm waiting to buy a GSO 5. How long do you think they'll be on your own site? Will any go to bladehq?

I think the GSO-5 will be around for at least a month. We don't get quite as many emails as we got for the GSO-5.1s.

There will not be any heading to BladeHQ this time around. We have suspended our dealer program until we can get our production caught up with demand.

The furthest release I've heard about is the 7/7 being ready in early 2015. I'd guess the 5.1 would be some time after, but it's only a guess.
