I have come across a couple true temper axes with similar names and was wondering if you guys knew of any differences other than the names themselves.

True temper - perfect, kelly works
True temper - kelly perfect
True temper - perfect

Any ideas?

I suspect they were probably just made at different times. As for any real differences, I doubt it.

It's a confusing mix of trademarks, acquisitions, and model names.

From YesteryearsTools:
"The A. F. & H. Co. used the TRUE TEMPER name in conjunction with the name Kelly for a number of years and in 1949 the company formally became known as the True Temper Corp..."

That's only a small part of the story.

The "Perfect" model has the bevels.

Today, the Ames company sells True Temper axes, and new "Kelly Perfect" axes are now being sold by Barco.

Different time frames, and mostly advertising as well.

Though I do believe the "Perfect" name, while mostly seen with bevels, was on some axes without bevels later on - a merchandising strategy to cash in on the name and reputation? Perhaps. Hard to say. I have a hatchet with no bevels, but that really doesnt count.
