Well I post little and lurk much.....as I know very little about all the newfangled knives and such (in best hillbilly accent).....but I've decided that I'm in need of a good neck knife........there are soooo many choices....I'm just wondering if there is one that shines above the rest?......or if you could recommend a few good choices to narrow it down?........I'm not looking for a custom or anything.......but would like a good one..........thanks.

There are a ton of great makers out there. May I suggest two forumites:

Neil Blackwood (DrLathe) http://www.geocities.com/Eureka/Meeting/5520/index.html

Lynn Grifith (can't remember his website address

)

If you're looking for production, Newt Livesay makes some fairly inexpensive ones.

Hope that's a start

If you're looking for something with a curve try an Emerson La Griffe or IMO the CRKT copy the Bear Claw. Hope this helps.

There are only two types of people; those who understand this, and those who think they do.

I just got a Newt Livesay Wicked Knife Co. Woo. I have carried it everyday for the last week and a half. It is a plain knife in appearance but a solid cutter. It has the chisel grind and tanto point. I think a double ground drop point might be better for utility, but the Woo serves my pupose. Newt also offers two or three other neck knife models. I bought from edgy-tools.com, give them a look.

Welcome to the group!

For users at a low cost the CRKT are nothing to sneeze at. For top end, go with one of the many Titanium blades available. I like that Emerson La Griffe as well.

Griffith Knives has some interesting neck knife designs, and they look pretty good. Don't have any personal experience, though.

The only neck knife I have is the REKAT UNK. Simple, plain, effective. Inexpensive, and soon to be hard to find.
