Great news, indeed.
Curious about one thing, though. "In the same statement, Sen. Hatch said, 'Without this amendment, there is a real danger that 80 percent of the pocketknives sold in the U.S. could be classified as illegal switchblades ...'"
That seems a little hyperbolic. Seriously, 80 percent of the pocketknives sold in the U.S. are assisted opening? Is there something I'm not getting?
I think knives that can be opened with one hand are being lumped in with assisted opening knives for the purposes of this issue. There's the 80 percent.
This is great news. I'm proud of my state's senator!
"The Senate sent a strong message and made clear that the 35 million Americans who own pocketknives are free to continue using them without the threat of federal agency intrusion,"
Thursday's Senate action puts us one step closer to passing this common-sense measure into law. The measure now heads to a House-Senate Conference Committee.
Don't forget, it's not law until it goes back through the conference committee, is approved by both houses again, and is signed by the President.
