Send reinforcements, Sarge, my knife has jammed!

Yes, it happened yesterday. An enemy agent disguised as a postal employee came to our shop door. He left a brown wrapped package that could have had ANYTHING in it.
I immediately went for my Benchmade Stryker to disable the tape and the paper and get prepared to do battle with whatever was in the box when......IT.....happened.
I flashed my Stryker out of my pocket and thumbed the opening disc and ...NOTHING!!!
A penny from my pocket was JAMMED in the liner.
There I was. Helpless. In front of an unopened box. And a JAMMED Knife.
Fortunately, my training at Switchblade Ranch kicked in and I drew my .357 and OPENED that box.
It was merchandise. Operative word, "WAS."
But...I survived.
How, other than having no change and thus being insensitive to panhandlers, can I prevent this from happening again?

What were you thinking, carrying only one knife!? You need at least two of everything. I hope you're carrying more than just a .357, if you're going to be in that urban war zone. Try a fixed blade. :)

I started carrying my stryker again a couple weeks ago. i use one pocket as my "knife pocket" and wallet, everything else goes in the other one!!! :)

Due to my lack of pockets, I am forced to put my phone in my AFCK pocket. The phone is very ugly now. :) But it's better than keeping it in my Surefire E2e-HA pocket; the light ate up the screen and finish of my last phone in a day.

I need to get a belt holster for my phone, so I can carry two (or more) knives in my right pocket.

You have just learned the meaning of the old Filipino saying, "Two is one, and one is none."

Just start giving the panhandlers dollar bills.

Problem solved, no need for change.

Does anyone still carry a change "purse" (remember the plastic ones that you squeezed open...), or did they go the way of the pocket protector ;)

I've seen some cool leather ones that might work well and protect other pocket "valuables"

If you carry your knife in your hand all day, you probably won't be approached by panhandlers.

My Grandfather carries one of those leather change purses and it works well for him. He has been carrying a change purse for at least 20 years, specifically to prevent knife jamming incidents. Me, I think the change purses are a little "ladylike" and just avoid change in the knife pocket. I do not carry umbrellas when there might be wet weather for the same reason (I wear a Gore-Tex jacket, and my Bundeswehr field cap.)

I've got one of these. It fits in my shirt pocket or front pants pocket. It's especially handy on the road, because it keeps the change in the same hand as the bills, instead of going to a separate purse, and it hides your ID and credit cards, so you don't have to flash them when you go for your money. It's also a good soft leather, pretty elegant, but also durable.

I carry a change "purse", its just the Aussie version! When you describe in detail what it started out as you can get some wild looks!

mschwoeb> think I know what you're talking about... isn't it the same one you'd carry your "precious stones" in? or have you lost your "marbles"?

Here are a couple of good old-fashioned coin wallets that should prevent the dreaded knife jam.

Oh yeah! it used to carry the "stones" of a big Kangaroo. And that is a LARGE TNT for comparison!
