Sending .110. Back for re-blade - is there a choice in blade steel?

I have a 2 dot (.110.) 110 that I'd like to send in for refurbishment and Am considering re-blading. The original blade has been sharpened too much (IMHO) and it appears about 1/4th and inch shorter than my other 2 dot 110 and my 426.

When sending back, is there any choice in blades during the re-blading? (assuming I'd be paying for any cost to Buck?) Any thoughts on replacing the blade on a vintage 110? I guess it's no longer a "2 dot" once the new blade is on...

This would be the first knife I've sent back so I'm unfamiliar with how the process works.

Thanks,

Calvin

Calvin, when you send it in and ask for a blade replacement, they will put in a new 420HC blade. There was a "gentleman" on the forum, now banned, who was really ticked off because Buck wouldn't replace his blade with one in S30V, even though they offer them in the custom shop.

Not much chance for a different steel blade other than the standard. Just send it in to Buck stating what you want done to Joe Houser. He'll handle the rest. DM

You can try contacting Leroy Remer at Triple R Knives. He used to be in the custom shop at BUCK and sometimes has decent 2-dot blades. I sent one to him that some schmuck ground down and he put a barely used 2-dot blade in it and it looks like new now. Be forwarned though, it won't be cheap. To me it was worth it as the knife was included in a lot of knives I had bought so I only had the cost of the blade in the knife. He might also be able to upgrade the steel but at a cost.

Probably should go to Buck directly for the answer but maybe some of you know, would Buck do the swap if you provided the replacement blade?

Thanks for he heads up. Few companies produce a such value for the arguably low, low price of a Buck. Never mind the "forever" warranty that comes along with their product... I have no issue with them not allowing a steel choice for re-blades. If I need the fancier steel I'll get the custom - I just didn't know and was thinking if I was sending it back anyhow, were there any options I needed to be aware of.

I'm sure the typical blade steel is more than fine. I can't begin to say how impressed I am with Buck, their representation in this forums, or the welcome I've received here.

Thanks for the info and unlike the other guy, I've got no issues with it at all!

Take care,

-Calvin
