Sending in Endela, in pieces

Hi gang, and hopefully Mr Sal can see this and let me know too,

First off, I can be an idiot sometimes. I am aware of this, lol. The wife backs this up! 🤣
Months ago, I took apart my Endela to clean it. Somehow I manged to break the piece the spring sits in. So the knife has been in pieces for months. I honestly am not sure if all the parts are there, anymore.

I want to send the knife to the Mother Ship to fix my knife. It's the best knife I have, and my favorite.

The blade is taped up. There is no way it could cut or poke anything or anyone. I have all the Parts in a baggie, taped up and tight. The blade is taped to the baggie.

Is there another way I should be doing this? I feel uneasy.

Thanks for the help all. And please be gentle, I know I screwed up. Lol

Bill

Spyderco is pretty hardcore when it comes to disassembly of their knives, I've had some sorry luck with them, but others have had different... one thing is for sure it's not going to be free.
Just wanted to add if yo put" Spyderco Endela parts" in Google and then hit images on the search bar it shows an exploded view of an Endela parts list from Spyderco themselves that might be helpful for you

Hi Billy,

You might let Charlynn, in Customer Service, know it's coming in?

As Biteme stated, people disassemble their knives and more often than not, the knife is less than it was when assembled by an expert trained in our factory to do that.

CS will probably charge you for the repair.

Yes Sir, I'll give yall a call tomorrow. I never expected this to be free. The question was never about cost, I just wanted to know if there is something I should know about shipping the knife. Thank you!

Its fair to charge someone under those circumstances, as doing the Humpty Dumpty thing is not an expected element of warranty service.
I fully intended on paying for repair. This thread was never about cost. I realize this is my fault and do not expect it to be fixed for free.

I would put everything in an envelope and tape that up too. I would ship it in a box that’s stuffed with paper. Then tape the box up real good.

Include a note in the envelope that has your name and contact information along with your return address. If there’s a disclosure on return shipping fees, include a check for the amount too.

I called Spyderco today just to verify that I was doing everything right, and safely. The nice lady I spoke with said they only have one guy doing repair work right now, so the turn around time will be about 6 weeks.

I'm super excited to get my knife back up and running. Thanks Mr Sal

I called Spyderco today and was told my knife wasn't repairable, which surprises me, because it just needed a backspacer, the part the spring sits in.

I was told they were sending me a 45% off for a new knife. I didn't think to ask while on the phone, but where can I spend that 45% off? To order a new Endela or Endura straight from Spyderco would cost me $50 more than from Blade HQ.
Anybody have any experience with this?

I'm actually really disappointed. While I realize I screwed up my own knife, I feel like this should have been an easy fix. I'm such a bonehead.

It may have not been all there, or more broken than just the back spacer.

It then must have been something more broken, more missing, or more out of spec in their opinion, to be safely fixed.

A back spacer only, yes.

It sucks Bill, but it is what it is at this point. Yes, the 45% off would be for a purchase directly at Spyderco.

Maybe you qualify for their OP Focus discount program. If so, that discount plus the 45% off would leave you coming out a real winner for next to nothing coming out of your pocket.

My opinion? Cleaning isn‘t ever necessary to the point of taking a knife apart. If it is, the company will take care of it for the cost of shipping. Let the professionals handle the disassembly. More often than not we just like to take things apart to see how they work… but businesses that manufacture knives are more concerned with making reliable cutting instruments.. not disassembly science projects. I typically leave mine alone unless I’m installing aftermarket parts, and if I do that I’m accepting the risk.

I'm guessing the 45% would be only from Spyderco itself.
I hope not.

Thanks Sir, and it's good to talk to you! I need to renew my membership so I can send PM's again.

Well it's my screw up. I am definitely disappointed, that was my favorite knife. I'll have to get another one (or an Endura).

I'll say this is case closed. Thanks all for the feedback.

If you draw a complete blank and are left hanging, I have a NIB Black Endura I’ll send you, just show it off every now and then.

We’ll hook up privately later, you still got my email, I’m sure I have yours too.

My knife arrived at Spyderco yesterday. I was already told it would probably be 6 weeks to get to it.

Being told in advance that it would likely be 6 weeks before they get to it, I'm curious why you were calling the week they got it?
The credit may well have been considered the most expedient way of dealing with the issue. (Consider the number of people that send things in for repair, then balk at the cost and choose not to pay...that process costs them time and money. It's akin to settling out of court rather than paying legal fees and risking the outcome)

I wanted to make sure they got the knife. I don't trust USPS tracking.
