It mentions on the site that they charge $20 for sharpening 'chipped' blades. Does this qualify as 'chipped?' Seems a tad open-ended.

I figured that even if I bought a sharp maker, I'm not confident I can put an edge on my brothers Manix right out of the gate. But I think it's best to probably take care of it now before it gets any worse. I also have to bend the pocket clip back into place, lol. Glad I sprung for the regular Manix over something a little lighter-duty for my brother. He's hell on things, haha. I don't think it's even two months old yet.

But if I'm going to send his in, I might as well send in mine. The $5 return shipping covers up to 4 knives.

I've never sharpened a knife without using one of those pull-type sharpeners, and I've never been too happy with the results.

I would consider that chipping, but I suppose the person sharpening it is the one who's opinion matters. I use a lanskey's kit or an old oil stone to sharpen and it is possible to get chips like that out on either. I don't think getting that chipping out would be too hard, it'd just be time consuming. Good luck!

I think that would be a great knife to practice on if you're willing to spring for a sharpmaker and put in some time, you'll probably need the separately sold diamond rods too though.

Those pull-through thingies often do more harm than good frankly, and nice knives like that are worth developing skill for in my opinion. I mean, wouldn't it be great if you could maintain them yourself for the rest of your live without having to depend on others? It's really not that hard (especially with a sharpmaker).

I do plan on getting a sharp maker, however the Manix belongs to my brother. I'd prefer to learn on my own knife! :D
I guess I'll probably just ship them out tomorrow and see how it goes. I actually gave my brother the little pull-through sharpener to straighten out the edge on his Rat 2. Being Aus 8, I wasn't too concerned about that. But I wouldn't try it on an S30V blade, no way. Thanks, guys.

That's not chipping from a sharpening difficulty point of view. Minor edge damage, yes, but not chipping.

Just something I see, you have large burrs on all of your knives, this is probably most of your sharpness problem.

It's easy to see in photos, isn't it? Lol. I will pick up a strop and whatnot when I get a sharpening system, too. But I'll ship them out today and see how it goes.

Send it to Jason. If you watch his videos, he's an expert & real pro.

I should definitely contact him in the future as it looks like we're almost neighbors. :)

Thanks, all.

lol, didn't even notice that, howdy neighbor.

It would save on shipping ;)

Ha, they're in the mail already! You're not the guy at the Royal Oak Farmers Market that I heard about, are you? :D

You could tackle that with a SM and diamonds. If I were doing it, I would use my Edge Pro, but wouldn't hesitate using a SM with diamonds if that's all I had.

Nope, I was thinking of stopping at a few this summer though.
