I have a packing delimma gentlemen that perhaps you could help me with. I have eight knives to send off for HT (had 10 but....)to Paul Boss. How should I go about getting these ready for shipping? I have a box that they all will fit in but I was wondering how I should wrap the knives for protection against each other. Any insight would be appriciated.
Thanks.

Hey Robert,
That's a good question...I'm looking forward to hearing others experiences on this one (this is fresh on my mind after having just sent a big batch of about 26 or so to Paul). I taped the knives together in small bundles of 5 or 6 and then wrapped a heavy piece of cardboard around each bundle. Then packed them in newspaper...but what a pain! Paul scolded me for making a mess the last time I send knives packed in "peanuts" so don't so that. :D

I don't worry too much about the knives coming back after heat treat since they're not going to warp in transit but going out is another story. I conisdered making a reusable rack to hold the knives apart but so far everything I've come up with takes up too much space and adds too much weight to be economical...and my current methods takes too much time and uses too much packing material.

Paul Bos recommends that you wrap the blades in newspaper, remove all finger prints and other contaminants from blades before wrapping.Dont put tape on the blades.Put a paper down, place a blade on it,fold it once, place another on top of that, repeat till it is a neat bundle, then tape it and box it.

Sorry I hadn't replied earlier with thanks for your suggestions but under the cercumstances.............

Thankyou though.

I have sent my blades to Paul Bos for about 17 years. He does an outstanding job.Do not send the blades with any kind of oily coating on them.Like mentioned above, wrap 5-6 blades in newspaper and use a small piece of masking tape to seal the "Pack".Do not use styrofoam "Peanuts".Use bundled newspaper instead. I send my blades U.P.S. second day air.Paul sends them back the same way.He has a quick turnaround time.
