Hey guys, I have decided to keep my M2 blade, (thanks for the advice) and I just spoke with Ann. I will be sending off my blade and hardware to them sometime this week hopefully.

I had a few questions. Should I get the liners coated? What hardware should I have coated? Should I get the chromium / Boride coat or just the Boride? Should I have the axis and / or the omega springs coated as well?

Right now I'm leaning toward having the double treatment on the blade, and just getting the Boride on the clip and liners, and hardware, but I don't have any idea if the differences between the two, or how it may effect the re-assembly of the knife. Please shoot me some feed-back if you have any experience with the above concerns. Thanks!!!

I've gotta say this one thing, if bodycote is gonna be removing the finsh there, it'll prolly still have the grinder and beadblasting marks underneath the old teflon. If those were anywhere near as bad as the ones on my AFCK in M2, then the knife will have a super durable black coating, that looks like crap. Remember, the boron carbide hides nothing :) With any luck that wont be the case, maybe my M2 afck was just rougher than hell cuz it was one of the first knives BM did in M2. Best of luck!!!

EDIT: Get the Boron over chrome if you can. The boron coating is very porous, and offers little protection against corrosion. Thats the primary purpose of the chrome layer underneath, it also helps to increase the life of the coating by providing a harder substrate than the steel underneath.

Ditto on the Chrome first.
I sent the hardware with mine, it looks really cool.
Ann will take care of you.

Do bodycote remove coatings?
how about prices for chroming and boron coating?
are they friendly to canadians?
i'm considering the SRK

Darrel or someone from bodycoat will need to answer that for you, I'll have to assume they will chemically strip coatings, since they wanna make sure everything that isnt metal is off the blade, cuz otherwise the coating wont adhere properly. I'd assume they would strip the blade themselves just to make sure, even if it were sandblasted off beforehand. Bodycoat has a 50 dollar minimum order, even tho it only costs about 10 dollars per knife, so send out more than one to make up for the minimum charge. I doubt they'll do your SRK unless you remove the rubber handle first, otherise it'll be well nigh impossible to coat it properly.

Ann said that Benchmade would remove my blade coating...HA, yeah right, I don't see BM doing that for ANYONE. Bodycote will blast it off with a 220 grit and go from there. It's $25 for the first blade, and $2 and inch for anything thereafter. CHEAP!!! They will also blast coatings off and do all the hardware, clip, etc. too for free. They can not disassemble anything, and all handles, etc MUST be removed first.

I may not do this, as I wonder what this coating is hiding. The BT2 coating must be really thick?

Ok.. then how the heck should I remove the rubber handle?

Let me know, because I want to try that with my Recon Scout.
