So I'm considering sending my sebbie into the spa for some treatment. I purchased it preowned and would just like the handle refurbished and maybe the blade sharpened. I'm just hesitant on being without it. So for those of you that have sent your knives in, what kind of turn around time is it ? I'd hate to be without it for months...

Mine just came back. It was worth the wait (See my post). It took about two weeks.

I bought a large regular on the used market and it had no problems until I took it apart and cleaned it. It's had a sticky lockbar ever since. I've re-assembled it several times and it always has varying degrees of stickiness to the lock. I contacted CRK and they'll fix it but they really encouraged me to do it myself. I've tried and tried. My micarta 21 doesn't have this problem and I've disassembled it several times. I meticulously followed the published instructions and STILL have a sticky lock on the large regular.

So instead of sending it in what did I do? I've EDCed the snot out of it. I treat it like a crosseyed hound dog. I use it for everything from digging pickled eggs out of the jar to spreading peanut butter, to stripping electrical wire. Use and ABUSE. I keep it sharp by running it down a Spyderco white stone from time to time. This knife has been my every day carry for some time now, a real switch for me as I usually carry Spydercos pretty much excluseively.

The CRK basically handles everything I have been throwing at it. Quite a knife. The lock is still slightly sticky, nothing I can do about that (trust me, I've tried everything). But it is proving to be the Timex of pocketknives. Dam thing takes a lickin and keeps on cuttin. And cuttin.

Only problem is the clip screw. It backs out and has to be retightened frequently. Other than that, it's a brute. Worth the money? Well, there are several Spydies that fall into the half price range of this knife and can do just as well performancewise. But hey, this is a Seb. There's a certain "status" here. I'm still tossing around the idea of sending it in. But for now, I'm treating it like a flea market knife. And it's holding up to the abuse. Cheers.

I'm not a Sebenza expert (yet :), have only owned one since Christmas), but I am pretty skilled with mechanical things in general. Seems to me that if the lock end and blade tang are clean, that leaves something compressable in the system. There needs to be some give in the system (pivot, lockbar, stop pin) for the lock to 'stick'. Check for lint on the stop pin, where the stop pin meets the blade, inside the pivot and bushing (though clearance here is just 0.0005" [I've measured mine] so it would be real hard to get lint in there).

Hope that helps,
ThumperACC
