Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with Senseo coffee makers? They are expensive, $60 - $70 bucks. You can only use their brand of pre-packaged coffee "pods". These two things are drawbacks to me. On the other hand I do like a good cup of coffee. Does it make coffee as good as the advertising claims?

From what I can tell it makes weaker espresso and calls it coffee. The "frothy coffee layer" would be crema and the filter bags are just larger espresso pods.

Personally I'd still just get fresh beans, grind em up right before I brew and have better coffee overall.

just my 2cents,

It's a gimmick, and is being marketed here as well. They have them at the new car dealerships, as they make "decent" coffee quickly. Marginal at best in actual coffee taste, IMHO.

I'm with Neko. Buy whole beans, grind em' as you need em. We've got a nice Braun coffee/cappucino maker, which was in the 50.00 range. As long as I keep everything clean, it makes fine brew.

One of our officers got a French press (hehe- Liberty press?) for Xmas, along with a pound of that extravagently expensive Hawiian coffee. She brought it in for a try.
I was hoping it would be no better than average, but I have to admit, it was REALLY good.

Not good enough to spend 18.00 a pound, mind, but really good.

Mwerner, unfortunately(as I'll probably buy more) I've been lucky enough to have sampled some of the even more expensive Kona coffees than you are talking about. Not sure it was worth the $30 per pound, but it was probably the best damn coffee I've ever tried.

I still buy it once in while, not very often though when I can get great local french roast for $12/lb.
