Hey guys, I recently just sent in my Super Roadhouse for up and down play, and I got it back with a new liner lock installed, and it still has up and down play, although its little bit less. Anyone happen know why this would happen even with a new liner? Before the lockup was 100% now its still 100%... Anything to do with the stop pin? It has some wear on it, but I can't tell for sure so it might just be that the black coating wore off.

Anyways besides that problem, the knife of course still works totally fine and not to mention the superb job Emerson Knives did. Came back in a week and it was perfectly centered and super sharp.

When you say lock up is 100% does that mean the lock bar travels all the way to the right?

If I were you I would call them and explain what's going on. Maybe if you discuss it with them they can deal with it better. Also personally I would politely ask them to wave the $14 fee if you send it back. Why should you be charged twice to fix something that should've been taken care of the first time around?

A couple things though. It is more common I think for knives with large blades to have a little bit of movement if you wiggle them near the tip. The longer you go from the pivot the more it's amplified. Also it may not actually be blade play then. It may be the lock flexing. Titanium is not very rigid like steel. It is softer. Titanium flexes with pressure before it will break. This is why Emerson prefers to use it. This flex would be felt more if you wiggle the large blade of your Super Roadhouse.

But if lock up is 100% to right then it probably is blade play and should be fixed.

OMG, thank you for clearing this up!!! Yes, the lock does flex a little, and it's actually about 80% lock up after more careful examination. There is no play if I push the blade down near the handle but a little on the tip.

Yeah, a little flex is OK just as long and the lock isn't slipping. The Ti 'sticks' to the blade tang pretty well and I've never experience slippage on my Emerson's I've owned (though if you wrench on them hard enough you can get some flex).

I always thought lockup percentages started lower on the left and got higher towards the right. Such as that would be 20% not 80%. Oh well. Lol

That lock up looks perfect dude. If the ti is flexing without slipping I wouldn't worry about it anymore.

That is a very early lock!
Take care of it and that should last for many years.
Here is the lock on my 2006 Commander. It gets used nearly every day and is still on the front half of the tang.

Oh, I don't understand the lock up thing too well but thanks for telling me.

Yeah, I'll give them a call on Monday. Good thing they don't spend 1 month fixing.

Well, your sending it to the same state whe you live, thwt has something to do with time frames I'd think. The stop pin on all my Emerson knives is free floating. Everytime the knife opens, the blade contacts a different place on the pin. Pictures help and tell a story that some folks can't.
