I purchased my Small Micarta Sebenza in early 2006 and I've carried it nearly every day since then. Over that period of time I had cause to use it heavily, with the worse abuse occurring during 2007/2008 as I was working on remodeling my house. It seemed like every time I needed a knife, the handiest one at hand was my sebbie. I'll admit that I used it for everything from opening cardboard boxes to stripping insulation from wires to scouring drywall and even cutting fiberglass insulation.
The sebbie held up well to this, but by the end of things it was looking a little ... rough. I was also having trouble getting a sharp enough edge on it. (My fault, really, as I've never really learned how to sharpen a knife properly, especially once the edge gets too far gone.)
Time, I thought, to send it back to CRK for servicing. Even so, I procrastinated for a long time. I just didn't want to give it up.
Finally, a couple of weeks ago I bit the bullet, sent the knife off to CRK with a letter telling them what I wanted done, and started EDCing my Mnandi.
Well, I finally got my buddy back today.
I had the handles refurbished, the blade resharpened, and the entire knife tuned.
It looks fantastic. In fact, it looks like a brand new knife. And it is now far sharper than the day I originally got it. They even put a new lanyard on it, although I didn't ask them to do that. Of course, I promptly took the new lanyard off, since I find that it only gets in my way.
The total cost was $41, including shipping.
If you have a Sebenza that could use a little TLC, I can't recommend this service enough. The only painful thing about it is not having your knife for the few weeks that it takes to have it refurbished.
And before you say it, I WOULD put pictures up but my stupid digital camera is out for servicing so I have no way to take the pics. But that's a whole other story....
