Khukuri FAQ

DAXX,
Unfortunately this is a very cheap, mass produced tourist model made in India starting in the mid 50s.
The 'engraving' is done with an electric pencil, the bolster and butt cap are made from very cheap pot metal, and the chromed blade is of dubious quality at best.
I wouldn't attempt to put this "kukri" to work...it may come apart in your hand.
Sorry for the bad news.

I think the good news is...that Uncle Bill can supply you with a *real* khukuri that will definitely chop some wood.

We see lots of these in the second hand stores here in Western Canada. Seems many of them came over with British families from India in the 50's and 60's. They are virtually identical to the one in the picture, little pommel head and all.

Well, it is a start of your Khukuri collection. All collections should be representative of the various levels of quality as well as types.

Enjoy.

i salute to jp - he don't need my conformation - it is an Indian made - my 1st khuk was that model - one day i put it to some little chopping work - the sharp edge chipped very badly ... it was a heartache! Alhamdu-li-(A)llaah! i got the real one from pakcik bill ... and it is 15" Ang Khola which was successfully tested - great knife ... so i gave that Indian made one to a friend because i don't want to litter it!

Good point Big 1. Every collection starts somewhere and in the years I have been at it more than a few of this model have come and fortunately gone.
I hope this is the beginning of DAXXs collection and interest.
