So I've come to the point where I have a buncha stuff I don't use/purchased because I liked the looks and have other growing hobbies. OTOH, I've grown attached to a few pieces in my collection.
Where do I draw the line between flipping it and keeping it?
For example, Spyderco Mouse: I love this thing, won't use it, but easily my favorite small Spydie. If I flip it, I know I won't get another easily

another: CRKT Desert Cruiser- I bought it because I like the Jim Hammond Cruiser, but can't afford it. Figured this was the way to go. Should I just sell it and buy the custom (which is what I REALLY want) later on?

Sell the cruiser;) , and keep the spydie if its your favorite......

I sold well over 100 knives last year, when money was needed..... Now im down to a select handfull.... you do whats needed.... you are best to make this decision on your own.

I have one rule.. I dont sell (knife) gifts, or hand down (knives) from a family member.... but thats it... Everything else is fair game....

Ease of replacement is a fair thing to consider, especially when it might be a knife a you searched a long time for and when you finally found one it was a big deal. At the same time, I want to keep safe queens and stuff that's really redundant to a minimum right now. Of course, there are always exceptions but I've sold off a lot in the past months and, while there are knives I wish I still had now and again, I'm happy overall with what I've got. Less scattered, more focused. Doesn't work the same for everyone but with each knife that moves on there's always something else new waiting for a try.

Then I see people with hundreds in their collection...
Oh well, I guess I need to wait til I grad from college and get a real job

I know what you mean. I've got eyes way too big for my wallet but you can't lose perspective on your personal financial reality.

We're in the same boat GarageBoy, I'm a year and a summer away from graduation, and my knife buying is killing my food and free time money :D. Me and my girl just took a trip to Cabela's near Austin, Tx and I bought a benchmade 551 griptilian with a D2 blade. Beautiful knife, green handles with a straight edge black coated blade, the only problem I have now is that I can't spend a dime until the middle of next month :(.

As for your original question, I have the same selling "requirements" that trimcut123 has. I don't get rid of gifts, or sentimental belongings. If I bought it, then it's fair game. Of course, if I've had a certain knife for a long period of time, I won't sell it, or if it has been one of my "all time favorites."

Ease of replacement is another thing to keep in mind. I have owned and sold a dozen buck 110s in just this past year. I also have a SOG Kilowatt that I wouldn't mind selling, the only problem is that I refuse to sell it because I am an Electrical Apprentice, so that would be kind of dumb to sell off a knife specifically made for people like me:p.

I have been selling off a lot of knives that were favorites at one time. I can't use as many knives as I used to and I now use kitchen knives more than anything. I am retired but the wife is still working so I am in charge of the cooking and kitchen chores. As I sell off my other knives I will purchase a few more good kitchen knives.

You will have to decide which/what is more important to you. When you have decided, do it.
I've got some knives I could easily swap if I needed the money. Seeing as I don't need the money, I still have them all.
I've got a few knives that I'll keep even if I DO need the money, and the reasons are strictly personal and have no relation to what other people would see as valuable.
When I first arrived in Australia I had $400 and no job. I went to an exhibition and spend $350 on a piece that was so beautiful I just had to have it. I've never regretted that purchase.

I can only sell my knives when the love fades. No matter what I'm going to buy. If I'm still in love with a knife, no way to sell it.
Sometimes happened that I try to sell a knife . At the first offer I receive, I immediately realize that i DON'T want to sell it !

( and I make myself the question : " Why I'm selling it so CHEAP??? "

I have no sentimental attachment to things I have bought for myself. I may like them but offer me the right amount of money and it's yours. Gifts on the other hand are never sold with one exception, a gifted knife or gun may be sold to another family member. The buyer has to honor this as well and not sell it outside of the family.
