While there are several threads out there on this stuff, I can't find any that have in-depth info on both lubricant properties as well as corrosion resistance. I want something that works relatively well at both, but that is resistant to wash-out when I flush my knives w/ water and even a little soap. This guy only reviewed Tuf-glide, not the grease so I am curious as to anyone's experience w/ this stuff.

This thread is in response to my on-going review of my ZT 0561 where I processed a deer (and now pig) with it, flushed it with water, and let it air dry over night... both Froglube and Amsoil metal protector have allowed corrosion to take place. But I did flush w/ semi high pressure, hot water, and cleaned the outside w/ soap - so maybe nothing out there can do this.

Anyway, I will post up findings here, whether it's good/bad or ugly =) I think some type of synthetic grease would be perfect though as the temp range is very nice, and it should lubricate better than conventional oil. This stuff does look interesting though, this is what the manufacturer says about it:

"Lubricates, waterproofs-prevents rust, even in saltwater. All the benefits of oil but stays put – will not migrate from -54ºC/-65ºF to 343ºC/650ºF. Synthetic blend exceeds mil-specs for moly grease. Lubricates and prevents galling on all types of metal- stainless steel, blued metal, titanium and aluminum. Prevents corrosion from salt water, powder residue, sweat. Concentrated and extremely long lasting- a little goes a very long way. HI-SLIP GREASE works by sticking right where it is applied. Sentry Solutions formulated this product with just the amount of tackiness to resist any migration and resist water wash off."

I use Hi-Slip grease on my firearms with really good results but I am not sure that it would stand up to hot water and soap. In fact I am not sure that anything would.

Thanks! I'm mainly just want something that can get wet and not immediately need to be reapplied. I've got it in my zt now.

Update: early testing seems very promising so far. Processed some potatoes the other night, flushed with hot water and dried the outside with the towel. Sit overnight, used it today a bit, then broke it down. No changes in action and zero corrosion. The grease is still lightly caked in there, just like I initially placed it.

If you are going to clean your knives with soap and water, you need to plan on reapplying lubricants. Soap and detergents break lubricants down.
Your best bet is to wash your knife and then flush it with WD 40. The WD 40 will displace all the water and provide light lubrication.

Thanks for chiming in Bill!

I agree that what you are suggesting is ideal, however, it's kind of a pain to do this every time after my knife gets wet. When I say resistant to soap and water I am not meaning scrubbing it with soap, I just mean cleaning the outside of the blade and scales off w/ soap and rinsing it off w/ hot water after processing game or something. Some soap may get in the pivot during the flush but that's all I meant. Basically, I want it to resist any flushing out w/ hot water, which the hi-slip grease has done very well so far.

Great point though!

What has allowed that corrosion to take place, is residual moisture in the pivot area.
WD 40 will drive the moisture out. Grease might keep the moisture off the metal for a while, but remember that grease won't displace water.
