How many of you keep kits in different packs, and end up transferring stuff from bag to bag? There are some new packs from Spec Ops brand that solve the problem. I finally put all my small stuff into a few of these, and they work great. Instead of moving stuff and forgetting a knife or light, I just throw the Pack Rat bag from daypack to BOB for a long trip, or move it back to a more civilian bag for shorter trips off island. Here's a pick of the Pack Rat bag with the sig 228 next to it for size comparison.

And here are the contents of the Pack Rat. As you can see it will hold a really good sized kit, with everything organized, and easy to find thanks to the neon yellow interior. They also make one that's smaller for BDU cargo pockets, that has a watertight bag inside. Good stuff.

Ooooooo! I have a mini revolver too! Pretty little thing but I hardly carry it. I have a similar bag I use for geocaching, I experimented with putting it in a larger bag but in the end it just seemed easier to transfer contents. I have most of my stuff in clear makeup pouches organized by use so it's pretty easy. In a hasty situation I would not hestiate to stuff one of my smaller bags into one of my large backpacks if the need required. I'm trying to plan a large tactical BOB but since the need to use something like that would be slim to none it's more an exercise in fun. So far I would put my smaller more useful urban pak into the larger bag and add needed items like rope, hatchet, firearm and ammo, whatever seems necessary at the time. I have a room in the house that most of my outdoor items are organized so all I have to do is pick a pack from the wall and choose what to add.

I actually keep that one in an older assault pack along with my LBE setup I turned into a BOB. It works great in the smaller pouch of the pack that has my Bivy, food, stove, water and filters. There is a half size pack rat, the dry cell on board, that I keep in the buttpack of my LBE that's a downsized kit as well so if I have to ditch my pack I'm still good. (Although a lot less comfortable at night)

My plan is getting back to my home if I need to. I use my BOB on trips as a backup to not being able to get back home. Maybe it should be called a GBH pack instead. :D

Ah yes, the PACK RAT... while some will use it as a man purse, and others use it to tote their marital aids, Robert typically uses his as a portable restraint kit. He's found it will easily hold chloroform, duct tape, nylon rope, a decent size knife, and Steven Speilberg's address quite handily.

The PACK RAT is quite durable and will hold a large frame automatic easily without screaming "GUN!" - and since it's available in Tan, it won't look out of place in a backpack. Plenty of pockets for cards, pens, calculators, PDA, checkbook, etc.

I keep the restraint kit in a whole other pack, all rigged up in the black van with mag wheels and bubble windows, with the 4" of foam insulation all over the inside. The only problem, of course, is that the zippers can be tough with my fake cast on my arm. :D
