We see various comments about the quality of knife magazines on these forums. I thought a mention of the recent Blade issue was warranted for the custom knife enthusiast.
The Loveless article has been posted. Very well done.
A nice article on blending production and custom knives titled 'High-Bred Hybrids'.
Joe Szilaski's 'Question-Answer' article includes fluxes used in forging.
A quote from the Loveless article states, "Dressing a deer with a Loveless is a delight". What more can you say?
Good to see the article on Harlan Suedmeier and the Little Giant power hammers. A nice story behind that. You've got to respect Harlan for taking on that company's problems and turning things around.
A one-page article on the up coming Guild Show in Orlando.
Long article on the carved and engraved titanium folder craze. Should be lots of interest in that area.
Another great article by Dan Farr. The second part of his coverage of four mosaic damascus makers. This months article features work by Ray Rybar and Cliff Parker.
I did have one question, though. Cruising through this nicely done issue, I did a double-take when I came across a full-page ad titled, 'There is a science to getting women..'!! Where did that come from??
Guess we'll see what others think, but I thought this issue shows Blade is doing a good job covering a nice variety of what is out there. Women problems, included. :D

Sigh.......yes, there may be a science to getting women, but as we are artists and craftsmen and not scientists, and dirty, smelly forge scale and grinder dust covered ones at that, it sounds like we are doomed in that area...lol
:p ;)

That thing about women is just a teaser for my next article! Stay tuned...

Dan

PS Kidding of course.

The reason for that ad is that it is mainly men that read knife magazines. If you read car magazines you will find lots of ads that don't have anything to do with cars. It's actually interesting to see that Blade magazine is drawing interest from advertisers from outside the industry.

I think I am going to put out an add in the next issue of Blade with a picture of one of my knives and then in bold print underneath..........CHICKS DIG IT :D :D :D

I thought that ad was a little out of character for Blade. I hope this is not the direction the magazine is moving. I like the publication for it's BLADE content. I'm not particularly interested in picking up babes. I know the bills have to be paid but I'd prefer to see more knife content instead of that kind of ad. It cheapens the overall image of the magazine in my book.

Besides I already have my chick!:D

Gil is celebrating 50 years in the industry, and this long and well-written article covers a lot of good ground. He is mostly an unsung name around this forum, but respect and admiration for him are (or should be) WAY up on the scale.

Gee I didn't realize how much sex sells.... ;) Last evening my wife and I were watching a comercial for paper towels and this busty woman was clenching the two rolls right in her front and then the camera zooms and crops in for the text line: 100% soft and natural. Thing is, it went right over Susan's head until I pointed it out. I think subliminally they were targeted HER to feel that 'bountiful' when she buys the pair.

Get over it. Glad there is fresh revenue helping the mag along. ;)

Coop...I fully agree with your viewpoint about Gil Hibben. After reading that article I have a much greater appreciation for all he has accomplished. Both in the knife world and outside of it as well.

Tim, why not have Dan write an article on WHY chicks dig your knives?? I think that would be the ticket!
