I am looking into getting a new knife and I think that this is the folder I want. I really can't decide because I want a BM 710 with the M2 blade also. I really like the looks of the SERE and I think I have read on the forum before that the blade steel in the SERE is very good. I can't remember who it was but a few days ago a forum member posted that he had just picked up a SERE and he thought that it was the perfect folder. I have been wanting a SERE for some time but not really wanting it all that bad but after reading that post I don't think that I can wait any longer. Sorry for this being so long and me going on about nothing. :o So to everyone who has a SERE, what do you think of it?

Kutch133, right after I posted this question I saw you post. It was very helpful. I see that almost everyone who has one really likes it. I know now that I have to have one. :D

You have a tough decision to make:

My two EDCs which I rotate are the 710 in M2 and the SERE 2000.

Both great knives.

The 710 is as practical a cutting instrument as you'll find. The SERE 2000 is built like a vault. Can't go wrong with either one.

John - If you do a little research in the archives, you find that the SERE 2K has gotten a lot of very favorable reviews. I carry mine when I need a bomb - proof folder. The 710 is a great knife, too. Actually, the 710 and the SERE make a pretty good combo. Each knife has its own characteristics; carry 'em both, and cover all your bases!

Edited because learning Italian has caused me to forget how to spell in English. Duh!

The only thing I don't like about mine is the tip up carry, which is just a personal preference issue. It's a great knife though. I too want to get a 910 with the M2 blade but that BT coating is whats stopping that purchase, I am hoping they will switch to BC coating in the future.

You wont find much to dislike about the SERE 2000, except that it rides so low in the pocket that it is not the fastest knife to get out. Other than that, its a great knife. I still have mine, and will not sell or trade it. I like it that much.

If you like the SERE then have a look at the A.G. Russell
"Strikeforce" knife he sells. I have one and it fixes all the gripes
I had about the SERE. Low carry , linerlock, and thumbstuds and
not lefty friendly. You'll also get a better warrany with the Strikeforce.

Give it a look. Not pretty, but ,boy does it ever deliver performance!!

The Sere 2K has probably the best liner lock in the business, even better than many customs. It's a tough "bulldog" of a folder. Excellent VG-10 steel, also. You won't go wrong with it.

You know it's funny how things go around and come around on these forums. Years ago after my good friend Dex Ewing turned me on to the then new, IMPROVED Military, I became a BIG fan of that knife, (and still am). I wrote glowing reports about it but one of the main complaints at the time, (among other things;)), from people was that the clip made the knife ride too "high" in pocket. It made no sense to me because it was only around 3/4". I liked the easy access though and said so. Everyone at the time clamored for lower riding folders.

Flash forward a few years and now forumites are complaining that the SERE 2000 rides too LOW in the pocket! Danbo, I'm not slamming you in any way because as I stated, I too like a little of the knife sticking up for better "purchase". I'm sure Al Mar listened to earlier complaints though and made the clip the way they did.:) I like their tidy application.

Okay, enough BS! I was late to the game on the SERE 2000 but finally got one about six months ago. I have to say, this knife is a winner! My example has perfect lock-up and I love the dual liners. This is as beefy a folder as you'll ever need. Yeah, the blade/handle ratio is a tiny bit off but it's a real user!

Gene, my comment on the lowridiness(hmm, did I just make up a word?) of the SERE 2000 wasn't really a complaint. In fact, I like the way it rides low. It makes for a much more comfortable carry, as the knife doesn't dig into your hip like a lot of folders do. I was just making an observation that you cant pull the thing out super quickly like a Benchmade AFCK.
