Well, I have to say, fountainman, that you make an interesting point about Spyderco. They do offer a very large range of knives that is only entirely appealing to a small group of individuals, but there are many individual models that please one person or another. Like you, I recently got a Viele, and I love it, it's my daily carry, and one of my favorite blades. I also have a pair of Militarys that I love, they serve a good purpose and do their job very well. But as far as models of Spyderco's that I really like, I can think of about 6 that I would consider buying/carrying, the rest I can appreciate for their design and function, but I would never buy/carry one.
SRW, I have heard many good things on the SERE, however I have heard that the Military is a better utility blade, the SERE is more of a survival blade. But I intend to get a SERE for daily carry, and when I can it will probably compliment a Military as my daily carries. Therefore my advice is get both, but if only one is available I would have to say get the Military if you want a utility blade.
