Both are have to´s. Both have it´s fans when it comes to liner locks.
Í´m in the market for both, but I can´t buy two at once.
I´d like to hear your advices.

Matthias

I have both. Both are great, each in it's unique way.
Which to get first???? Flip a euro.;) :D

OK, I have both, and here's my take: I love to fondle and stare at my SERE because it's perfect looking and feeling. I love to carry my Military because it's light, slim and incredibly sharp. One gets carried, the other gets drooled over. I wouldn't part with either one!

...but if I could only have one I'd keep the Millie.

Get the Al Mar SERE 2000. Actually, between the SERE 2000 and the Military, there really isn't a bad choice. You might as well also take a look at the Benchmade 710 and 805/806.:).

Tough choice. Both SERE and Military are excellent knives. Since you're destined to get both anyway, get the Spyderco Military first, then the Al Mar SERE. ;)

I gotta break down at get a Millie... I'd probably still say "Get a Benchmade 710 instead!" :)

Got a Millie, and I love it. The passion of the Sere 2000 fans seems equal to mine. Sounds like a no lose proposition.

wow. that's a tough decision. both have equally lovable attributes, but the millie comes in S30V!! i like the looks of the sere a little better, though the millie might win out in bottom-line utility.

if you still can't decide, save your bucks & get a duncan aftershock. i got one & it changed my friggin life :D!!

The SERE2K is a great knife, but the Military has my heart. Thick G10 scales, strong "nested" linerlock, lightweight design(4oz.), textured spine, enlarged opening SpyderHole,
and 4" of S30V steel.

I do not have a military -but have heard a lot of good-I have also become a good fan of vg10-holds an edge very well and dresses up with ease-also the sere is a rock-substantial-if you like the "feel" of quality along with the looks-also the sere looks more like a tool than a weapon to me (if sheeple is a problem)-I too will have a military someday-I agree that you can`t really go wrong here-which ever has the best deal get it first and then get the other:D

Sorry to all the spyderco fans, but of those 2 the SERE is in a class by itself..no comparison Al Mar!!!!!!!

I have an Al Mar Sere 2000 and Spyderco Police (pretty close to Military) and personally I'd go with the Sere 2000, I love weight of the Al Mar as well as the nice firm grip and strength of the liner lock, that thing isn't gonna budge. It's also very smooth opening and I personally like to be able to flick a thumb stud to open a knife over the spyderco blade hole design. But either way you go, you're going to be getting a quality knife.

Both are great knives, but I prefer the Military.

The Al Mar SERE2K has a much heavier build (and probably heavier duty, in terms of lock, blade, etc.), but the Military is more user/carry friendly, IMO. Overall, the SERE2K seems to be built for true "survival" use, whereas the Military excels as an all-around general purpose blade.

The SERE2K's lock is much harder to release accidentally, as there are no grooves cut into the lock and no relief in the scale for easier access. This also makes it a bit harder on the thumb to use under slippery conditions and with gloves on. This is purely preference, though. The SERE2K also has the deep-pocket carry, which again is purely personal preference. Grind is sabre on the SERE2K as opposed to a full flat grind on the Military. Pocketclip is ambidextrous on the SERE2K. Fit and finish are very good on both, with the edge to the Al Mar.

It really depends on what you're looking for in a knife.

Depends on what you want the knife for....

If you want something that carries easily (it's thin & light), is pretty heavy duty (strong, but not as stout as the Sere), and is an excellent slicer (flat ground blade with a NEEDLE sharp tip - DON'T PRY WITH IT EVEN LIGHTLY)... get the Military.

If you want a knife that is an absolute brick sh!thouse, get the Sere. It is a little heavier, but makes up for it with its brute toughness. Has excellent materials and workmanship second to none in a factory knife. One stout blade. It's my favorite factory folder - bar none. I used to even own one... until my wife stole it from me! Oh well, it's an excuse to keep trying out new folders, but it's pointless because I know I'll eventually just get another Sere.

Either way you go, you'll pick a winner!

I've owned both and they are distinctly differenent knives. The Sere is heavy, thick, built like a tank. The Military is light and slim but it's actually a much bigger knife. I'd take the Sere2k over the Militay because I think the Military is too big and takes up too much pocket room (it's hard to reach into my pocket with a Mili clipped there). The thinness of the Military also makes the grip uncomfortable for me.

I also have a 710 and would take it over either :)

Strange, for me it's the opposite - the Military is so light and thin that it carries beautifully in the pocket (and light enough for neck carry too). In fact, it's so light that sometimes I have forgotten that it's there.

I think it's the way that such a superb, large cutting tool (and I think everyone would agree on that fact) can be carried so easily is one of the Military's best selling points.

Both are great knives but I had a Spyderco Military and to me my SERE 2000 wins hands down. This is one HELL of a knife and it has one of the strongest if not the strongest liners in the business. The deep pocket carry is most excellent and it's built tough. Works well in both forward and reverse grip. The Military from Spyderco wasn't for me but it is great for others. The SERE 2000 is one knife that I would compare to a Strider and those other hard core knives we hear about but the SERE 2000 is 1/3 the price and will last a lifetime.

IF WAR IS HELL, TAKE A BETTER PITCHFORK THAN THE DEVIL

My EDC rotation is a black S2K, MT LCC M/A, and a Millie. All are outstanding knives, each have different strengths, and few weaknesses.

The SERE is a solid, confidence inspiring knife. Feels like a Rolex or Omega dive watch, slick action, no blade play, and solid KaThunk lockup. Really nice work on the G10 Scales, too. Thick, but like a Rolex, it's worth it. Carries nice and low in your pocket, and the blade shape and point are just about perfect.

The Millie is a slicer, like a Katana sword in your pocket. Thin, light, and amazingly large for it's size - if you have one you know what I mean. It's a big knife, that carries like one much smaller, and it cuts like a light saber.

I would buy the Military first, but you'll have to get the S2K eventually.
